  1. I'm 54, and I, too wish I could have had this a looong time ago. At least I am getting it now, in two weeks.

    CORPUS CHRISTI AREA SLEEVERS?

I'm in CC, and Dr. Patel is doing my sleeve in SA on 1/24. Good luck with yours! I'll probably see you at some of the meetings.

    1.00 coupon for Greek yogurt

Can I ask a stupid question? I have never liked yogurt, so I don't really know much about it. How is it (greek yogurt) different from other yogurts, and what can you do with it besides eating it by itself? Does it say "greek" on the container? Also has anyone tried the Beanitos bean chips on the second page? They sound interesting, wondering what the Protein vs carb content is.
  5. Mine is the 24th, so I'm with you, girlfriend!

    band v sleeve

Do what I did. Google "gastric sleeve regrets" then google "lap band regrets." The difference will become clear. Hardly anyone regrets having the sleeve, but tons of banders say they would do things differently if they could. I had the same doubts until I did this. I'm getting the sleeve on the 24th.

How much was your self pay?

I'm also having my sleeve in San Antonio, at Innova Hosp. Everything included, my self-pay is 14,000.

    catheter?

When you are under anesthesia, everything relaxes, including your urinary sphincter. The doctor does not want you leaking urine on the table--NOT sterile once it hits the air. That's why a catheter is put in with almost any general anesthesia. If you are really, really concerned about a UTI, ask your doctor to give you a shot of antibiotic. I've had several surgeries, and had a catheter for several days with my hysterectomy (they did a bladder suspension at the same time) and it really isn't that big a deal. A little uncomfortable when you move around, yes.

    Full Liquids post op?

My doctor wants me on a clear liquid diet for three weeks post-op! I don't know if I will be able to stand it.

Newbie who needs a lot of support

You came to the right place, Marilyn! I love this forum. I get my sleeve in 2 weeks, and every time I get depressed or anxious, getting on here for awhile makes me feel much better. The people here are great! Good luck!

    Rapid Heart Beat After Eating

I could hazard a guess, as an RN. The vagal nerve affects both the stomach and the heart. Yours may be overreacting to the "full" stomach and causing the high heart rate. It should settle down eventually as the tissues around it heal and any irritation to the nerve goes down. But this is a question you should ask your doctor, just to be safe.

Psych eval and Nut consult tomorrow morning!!

For the psych, I had to fill out a questionnaire and then take the MMPI--a long test with strange questions. Then the psychologist asked me a few questions. That was it. For the nutritionist, I met with a P.A. who outlined what I could expect to be able to eat after surgery, and stressed low carb, high protein. He told me what vitamins and supplements I would need as well. He told me I would lose hair if I didn't get enough protein, and get lightheaded or headachy if I didn't drink enough fluids. I would have liked to have gotten into more specifics regarding the dietary restrictions, but there were other patients waiting in line to speak to him. So basically there wasn't much to either consult. Of course, yours may be different.

    Water add-ins

I hate drinking plain water, but I am allergic to aspartame, which is in Crystal Light, Wyler's, and most other flavoring packets. The only one I have found so far that I can use is AriZona Lemonade Stix, which uses Splenda. ( I don't like lemon flavored teas, so I wouldn't use the AriZona Lemon Tea packets.) Anyone know of another brand of flavoring powder that doesn't contain aspartame?

    My New YouTube Journey

I watched your most recent video, and was glad that you covered what kind of foods you were eating. I am still pre-op, and have started stockpiling foods I think I'll be able to eat, but I'm never too sure what will work and what won't. Please keep up the videos!

    Naysayers! Blah....

Dusti, that's what this forum is for--to provide the encouragement and support that may be lacking elsewhere! When I get discouraged or start doubting my decision to get a sleeve (just 2 more weeks! Yay!) I come here and read the new posts and re-read the old ones. They really show me that I am headed where I need to go.

    Just Getting Started

Sounds like your husband is afraid of losing you. Maybe you could have your doctor call and talk to him about the dangers af NOT losing weight. Is your husband overweight as well? Maybe he is afraid you will try to get him to lose when he isn't ready to. Talk to your doctor about the problem and see if he can help. Good luck!

    Embarrassing question

Does it float? if so, it is fat being eliminated from your body--a good sign, I would think!

    Surgery done 2 days ago

Congratulations, Cathy! I am 54 and in about the same shape as you medically, CPAP at night, bad knees, bad ankles, pre-diabetic, high blood pressure, etc. I am to be sleeved on Jan. 24. I hope everything goes well for you. There are lots of great people here. Any question you have, they will answer it. When times get tough, log in and look around. I guarantee you'll feel better.
  25. Thanks, Telisa! Good luck to you also. Where are you having yours? Mine is in San Antonio.
