M2G got a reaction from VSGAnn2014 in Can't stop losing
I'm sorry you are having this trouble, as you said it's no fun on either side of the coin...under or overweight neither one is healthy for you.
I just want to echo was Lynda said...adding in healthy fats, calories and planning out your day in regards to your meals should help you get a handle on it.
I also just want to say this. (Not to be rude or stir up drama) but I just want to mention that sounds VERY UNUSUAL for most sleeve patients. At 17 months out most people are just usually hitting their goal weight or they have found a few pounds have climbed back on etc. So to drop 30 lbs in 3 months, well are you sure you don't have another medical condition going on? Can you have a dr. appt to just run blood work and check that everything is ok? That seems pretty worrisome! I hope you can stop the loss and regain a few lbs of muscle!

    When:
Your boobs are bigger than your belly
You take up sewing just so you can cut 3 inches of fabric off each side of your favorite shirts and resew them and wear them
You don't have to shop in plus size anymore
You can comfortably wear a pair of sexy high heels

WOW! You are looking GREAT Irene!
We are we going to see pictures with your beautiful hair down ...lol. You remind me of my 10 year old daughter...she has the most amazing long beautiful curly hair and she ALWAYS has it tied up, pony or bun, but I never get to see her beautiful hair down. So that can be your next photo essay.

M2G got a reaction from cannonmelissa77 in Sleeve doubles in size after 1 year?
I'm 3 years post-op (today!! woo hoo!) and honestly I probably CAN eat double what I could at 2 weeks post-op (which was probably an ounce or two at a time). It's a natural expansion that happens as the swelling goes down and your stomach organ settles into it's new shape, size, etc.
But I still max out at about 4oz of dense Protein. I will never again sit down and eat a 6oz, 8oz, 12oz steak...not going to happen from a physical standpoint.
Also you need to remember, just because you CAN eat more doesn't mean you SHOULD eat more. Controlling your portion sizes is basically what lies at the root of this surgery. It can't do all the work for you, as you have to be in control of your portions.

M2G got a reaction from ChaoticBliss in How much of ur long term success is from developing healthy habits or actual restriction?
I agree that there is a combination of both. Restriction is still strong for me at 3.5+ years later BUT it's certainly easy to eat over my daily caloric goal. (My goal is about 1500 calories a day but it's easy to creep towards 1900!) The other day I was eating fast food (I know, I know, not the best choice!) but at chick-fila I had 4 chicken nuggets and about 3 waffle fries and that was it. There was no room for anything else (their salad w/grilled chicken would have been a better choice!)
So restriction is still there but the healthy eating HAS to be part of the equation too. I'm sure in my pre-sleeve days I would have no trouble eating a 12 piece chicken nuggets, large fries and a diet coke, plus room for more, like an ice cream cone, etc. So yeah the sleeve does still force Portion Control for me anyway.

M2G got a reaction from BeagleLover in Unbelievable charge for VSG to my insurance
Mine was around $32,000 dollars and I had to pay $5,000 of that out-of-pocket, but I knew that was the deal going in. No matter what the "paperwork" says I can guarantee no one paid that much money. The hospital "discounts" the fee and the money changing hands is not that amount.
Your does seem like an astronomical number...since they are asking you for more money you might want to do a little bit of investigation about the bill. Good luck, I hope you don't have to pay more $$$$...

My nurse ok'd some sugar-free Halls Vitamin C drops. My throat hurt so bad, I was really glad I brought these to suck on once they determined I had no leaks and were letting me have small sips of Water.

As one of the "Old Ladies" of the site, let me say, please do not wait to have fun and feel good in your skin until the perfect circumstances arise. They may NEVER rise, and life is too short for all that waiting. I also know this is way harder to do than to say, but give it a go. That doesn't mean stop trying to get the results you want... just try and strip out the "I hate my flab" part... its mean, you would never do it to a friend... be your own friend. I try to thank myself daily for still standing upright (more or less) and moving forward in life. I sometimes catch myself saying means things to myself... but have worked for many years to stop that talk.  Love all around! Maybe you need a tattoo! A big fat heart!

Okay I decided since I've been basically the same weight for the last 6 months, I might be "done" losing scary thought, BUT I'm not going to change my ticker yet, as I still have an aspirational goal that I would like to someday achieve.
But I finally am putting up my before/after shots...It truly is astounding to see the difference!! (Click on them to see them larger)

M2G got a reaction from pandashazz in Sleeved 3 years ago today...how did I celebrate?
Just wanting to say a quick thank you to my fellow VETS here in the Vet's Forum for encouraging me, lifting me up, and being there for the long haul! I know several of you who went before me OD, Coops, GT, etc. and a few of you who were really close to my date as well and a lot of you were who were after me.
But staying HERE at VST and being encouraging to me is awesome and I just wanted to say thanks.
(If you want to see my before/afters I posted here)
    http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/topic/97887-3-years-ago-today-i-had-the-vsg/
I celebrated by purchasing some new spin shoes and doing a double workout (weight lifting for a hour and spin for an hour!)

I have wanted some of these for so long and a 3 year 'anniversary' seemed like a good time to treat myself!

They weren't cheap but totally worth the investment and way better than cake (well, ok, *almost* better than cake...)

Anyway, 3 years is a long time to be on a message board but I wouldn't be here without some of my fellow vets and for that I'm so grateful. THANK YOU!

Hard but good. You can stand together now.
Skinny! If you had some slim bootcut... snug through the knee, a slight flair to the break, just big enough to get over your boots. A nice cuban heal and pointed toe look awesome too....if your foot shape can handle it... I wear a pair almost all the time....

Its funny, I'm sure the love is real, but still, sometimes what you can't have, you kind of value more. I took months to say yes to my husband... I knew there were areas that he just could not deliver for me...and yet areas where only he could... and 20 years later, thats exactly the same place we still are. If you can't just live with the problem areas, then get out. If you are willing to give up your exact picture, for some good quality of what you do want , then maybe it could work. I think I really knew what I was getting into, and yet, in the deepest part of my heart, I would like him to mature about a few things, for his own good...even  though I know better than to count on this ever happening.

    Aw! Cute Kitty!
I had a great Dads day, visited with my family. I'm lucky my dad is still here to visit with. It was also my 61st b-day. I actually had someone call me an "old lady" yesterday, in a good way... she said "I have always admired your point of view (I have known her from when she was about the age of 15---she is at least 10 years younger than I) but I have to say I like you as an old lady even better.
I haven't seen her for maybe 20 years...it was kind of funny to hear, but not really bad or anything. I said thank you. I had lots of fun this weekend, kayaking, bird watching, eating out (the good the bad and the ugly) Cake, ice cream, and lots of other stuff.
Good news, my labs came in today and my cholesterol went down to just below 200... so no meds for now. What a relief. I really did not want to go there.... I never did lose the 5 pounds the doc wanted me to lose... Really the only thing I did different was take plant sterols before eating high cholesterol foods...this has had some good research test results so far... and no side effects....so I thought I would give it a go. It fills the receptors that take in cholesterol from food with a form of cholesterol that doesn't effect your arteries, and blocks the bad cholesterol that is contained in dairy, eggs and meat from entering into your blood... it just passes out of the body and is not absorbed... this is my understanding anyway. I don't eat meat, but would use the tablets when I knew I would be eating something with high cholesterol content...cheese, milk, and eggs.
Well, that recipe looks good! I love marinated veggies... I like to add garbanzo Beans and some olives and mozzarella too...I may have to make some tomorrow.... G'night all...

Well, had a great Fathers Day lunch with the daughter and her family. The new hubs, Jeremy, has quickly become FAMILY. Truly a good soul who loves my daughter and girl. His son is here for three weeks. 15 yr old. Weston. Very sweet and good kid. The girls love him!
I made a friend of mine's marinated salad. It is fabulous. Thought is post for y'all. I used Truvia blend instead of sugar. You can also cut some out if you want yours to be tarter. It is very good. And a hit!!! Great for munching on later. I actually take mine and "wash" it to remove a lot of the extra oil/sugar. Best if you make it and let it sit for several hours or overnight first.

    Marinated salad

    1 cup Water
    2 cups vinegar
    4 tsp dry mustard
    2 tsp celery seed
    2 cups sugar
    2 tsp salt
    1 cup oil

    3 cucumbers
    4 tomatoes
    3 colored bell peppers
    3 green bell peppers
    2 onions. White n red (1 ea)

Cut veggies in bite size chunks sprinkle 1/4 sugar over . Mix marinate bring to boil pour over veggies I put a heavy plate to push veggies into mix.

    Enjoy
