Sleeve May 15 and I'm Angry

The surgery will help you but it won't fix your unhappiness and frustration you will need to continue with therapy to help you get to feel good about yourself and what's in you as a person. Feel and talking the way you do just means you really want this which means you will work hard to get there. That's a good step forward.

    Weight loss before surgery

Well good luck. Did the lap band not work for you, is that why you are getting a revision and doing a sleeve. I had my lap band on for about 4 years and it didn't hardly work, every time they put fluid in it was to tight, when they took it out no restrictions and I am back at the same weight as I was when I got the lap band. Ughhhh!!! frustrated but looking into getting a revision.

    Weight loss before surgery

I looking into getting a revision of my lap band and going to sleeve. Does anyone know if it was difficult to get insurance approval on this? Also, would be interested in hearing from someone who had this kind of thing done. Having the band and it not working for you.

Use the search feature on the site and look up revision. Tons and tons of them! Many of us on the board won't be surprised if they stop putting bands in altogether!

Yes - I had the lap band in 2005. Six weeks post op, they removed the port, since the wound site would not heal. Starting weight was 430. I had many, many problems with my lap band, ending in erosion in 2010 with a complete removal, and an open wound for 12 month due to peritonitis. However, I had a completely open band, no fills because of no port and I went from for 430 to 232. Its now 7 years later, I have gained 90lbs and I am one week away from gastric sleeve surgery, nervous, excited, anxious - I am all of these things - but I will take this as opposed to being dead due to heart disease, diabetes, and all the other stuff that comes with being obese. (BTW I hate that word obese, I would prefer to be called fat, but obese is what I am) Only you can make the decision as to what right for you, listen to yourself and make the best choice for you.

  9. I was told by my doctor don't drink anything and half an hour beforw you eat and wait 1 and 1/2 hour after you eat. Which is hard, because everyone drinks with their food. I do find myself more hungry but I dont eat alot> Does anyone know how they should feel or how they can tell if someone has slipped, what I means is their band slipped. Reason I am asking is my sisters friend has had the lap band done two years ago and has only lost 20 lbs, still continues to get fills but not losing weight. Any advice would be great, as I am worried that this could happen to me. I have had my surgery done on 1/31/2011 and have lost a total of 19 lbs, go in for my first fill on the 9th of March. Will I start to feel some resistance. Thank you

    SO FRUSTRATED!!!

Maybe if you change the way you do things it will kick your metabolism in the rear, I heard that if you get out of your regular routine and add something different you will get it going again. Don't get frustrated because we are all going through it. Just do something different, like only taking walks instead of working out at the gym, and make sure to drink you 64 oz of Water and your Vitamins. Native girl o

January 2011 Bandsters - Where are you?

Hello all my name is Dora and I was banded on January 31, 2011 and I go for my first fill on March 9th. I though my surgery went well, I checked in at 6:00am went in to surgery at 8:00 am. Don't remember anything execept them reeling me in to OR and moving me to a table after that I woke up in recovery. Woke up took me a while to get some water down as my stomach was still bloated from the gas they put in me to do the surgery. But once I walked around the gas started coming out and I felt better, so they released me to go home at 3:00pm, but really did not leave until 5:00. I still have some pain where my port is, but other than that I am doing fine. Couple days after my surgery I was on the road traveling to a meeting out of town, making sure to keep water and protein with me at all time. My appetite was not that good, so I just made sure to drink 3 to 4 protein shakes a day as I did not feel like I was getting enough nourishment in my body. To this day I am still having a problem of getting enough water in my body, but I will just have to make sure I carry water with me all the time. Nice to know about this thread as I did not know if anyone else had the surgery around the time I did. Good luck everyone on your new and improved way of living.

    Banded 2-9-11

I had my surgery on 1/31/2011 and I go for my first fill on 3/9/2011 and so far went in weighting 212lbs and to date I weight 193lbs. I followed the instructions that was given to me by my surgeon and the recovery was not to bad. Most of my pain was where the incisions where and a little gas problem, I walked a lot to take care of the gas and the incisions are healing great. Congratulations on taking the first step to a new and healthy life. Native Girl

    Can someone help me understand

Hi all I am glad a came to this forum. I had my surgery done on 1/31/2011 and I do not get my first fill until 3/9/11. I am really wanting a cup of coffee I have been with out for about a month and I am missing that one cup. Does anyone else out there miss that one cup of coffee. My swelling has went down and I an feeling a lot more hungrey, but I only eat a small amount and then I make sure to put the food away. I have been eating mush with protein in it, soups, yogurts, jell-o and popcicles. It does get hard when I travel to make sure that I can find something to keep me on track, I do make it to the fitness centers that the motels offer and I work out for about 30 minutes whether it is on the cycle or the tredmill but I push myself to do that. I am starting to get more hungrey. Thank you Native girl

    The BIG secret!!

I understand everyones concern on who to tell and how people would react, but remember we are all doing this for ourselves. Each of us that has choosen to do the surgery has tried a dozen of diets before even considering this surgery. I know I have spent so much money on trying different diets and the most I have lost on the diets were about 10 to 15 lbs. Having this surgery is stressful enough for us all, because believe it or not it is a big life change for us all. Just worrying about that is enough than to worry about what everyone is going to say about us having surgery. Also, remember that this surgery is only a tool we have to change our way of eating to make this a success and not forget about the exercise on a dailu basis. Good luck everyone it is hard enough to put our life through this and then have to worry about what other people are thinking. Dora

    surgery so close!

Hi Dani, I to am getting ready for my lap band, I am scheduled for Monday, Jan. 31, 2011 @ 8 am in Medford, Or. I am on my 8 days of liquid diet and it is really hard, trying to make sur e to find the right Protein drink to use with a good taste not like a Vitamin taste. I am so excited and scared of this new change, but I am excited because I will be able to have enough energy to spend with my husband and children. Not only that will be able to look in the mirror and like what I see. Good luck in on your surgery I know it will all go well, I am sure you have a good surgeon like I do with well knowledgeable assistances to help with the whole procedure. Dora
