About Me

Hellooo all. My name is Kelsey. My story is just like everyone else. But I will tell you guys about it.

I have been over weight since I was probably about 6 years old. I was always the bigger kid. Which totally sucks.

My mom put me on this program at the Children hospital, all you did all day, was work out. It wasn't something a 6 year old would want to do.

That didn't last very long. When I was about 13, I think, I went to a weight loss camp in New York called Camp Shane.

My first summer there, I went for 9 weeks! I lost about 42 pounds there, I came home and lost 7 more pounds, put then gain every since pound back,

and then some more. I went back the next summer for only 6 weeks, and lost about 30 something pounds, put once I got home, I again gained all of it back. A year or so later, I tired Jenny Craig, the food totally SUCKED!! It wasn't good, and I hated it because I would always have to take the food to school and heat it up, and I didn't want anyone to know that I was on this weight loss thing. I lost about 20 pounds, but then I quit that because it was to much money, and I didn't want my mom to keep paying for it. When I was on Jenny Craig, I barely ate a thing. If I didn't like what I had for dinner, or lunch or whatever, I just didn't eat. Totally unhealthy. And those weekly weight ins sucked as well. I didn't like having people see how much I weighted. at all.

A few more years later, I started Nutrisystem. Their food was just as nasty as Jenny Craig. Even worse. I only lost 10 to 12 pounds, but I was only on it for a few weeks. My mom and I had a talk about getting W.L.S. I was all about it. My mom, not so much. She wasn't sure how safe it was or anything. And then a co-worker of hers got the sleeve done, and was doing well on it. and lost a lot of weight. I was all about getting what she got since my mom saw the results and was amazed. We then went to the website that her co-worker gave us, and saw they were going to have a seminar in a few weeks. We went to the seminar, and then made the doctors appointment, the appointment was with Dr. Mobley. He wasn't the doctor that talked at the seminar, but I didn't want to wait a few more weeks to have the appointment I had an appointment the next week. I was sooo excited.

(The insurance ladies told us that if we wanted we could call the insurance company ourselves so we could to get the acceptance ourselves. And my mom got her friend that got the sleeve, and she helped soo much with it, we got the approval and got the documents for it)

The day of the doctor appointment, I told Dr. Mobley which surgery I wanted, he told me that he didn't think that was a good idea, and that he thought that the lap band would be a better choice, since I was still young (I'm only 19) and I'm not that big (I weight about 280 ish?). He said that if I were older and much bigger, that the Sleeve would be a good choice but since I'm young and not that big, then the Lap Band may be a better decision. He told me that with the Sleeve, since it's newer, that the insurance company may not cover it, and that I would lose bone and muscle, annd hair. I do not want to lose hair!! He has lap band himself, so does his wife, and a lot of people in his family. He said that it's not permanent, and that if I were to get pregnant, that I could loosen it have the baby and then put incline back in and lose the baby weight. He totally sold me on the Lap Band. After he told me that I'd lose the same amount of weight, and the Lap Band was much safer.

But since I want the insurance company to pay for 80% of the surgery, I'd have to wait 6 months to do the supervised diet. I have to wait! It sucked, but I gotta do what I gotta do. I have to go back monthly, and if I miss it, I have to start all over again... Insurance companies are smart, they think that people won't want to wait, so they'll pay themselves, and they won't have too.. ahh man. hah. That's my story.

I recently got banded Dec, 27th at 7 am at Journeylite. I love my band and so far I have lost about 27 pounds, I am due for my first fill Jan 26th at 10:30, I can't wait to lose more weight!
