    BMI Standards

Although I have been keeping up with my BMI as it changes, today is the first day I looked back at the standards. I have moved from Morbidly Obese to simply Obese! I can't wait to be overweight!!! Body Mass Index standards are: BMI 18.5 to 24.9 Healthy BMI 25 to 29.9 Overweight BMI 30 to 39.9 Obese BMI 40 to 49.9 Morbidly Obese BMI 50 or higher Super Obese

So awesome! I was just looking at the BMI standards and realized I am simply obese, compared to morbidly obese. Party! Can't wait to be over weight! Congrats!

7 Weeks Out & Stretched my pouch already!!

Everyone is so completely different. I was eating normal food a lot quicker than most people who post on here, and my recovery was quick and never really uncomfortable. I feel like I can eat a lot more than what I read on here as well. But....I continue to lose and feel good so it is not something I am worried about. I've lost 62 since my Dec. 14 consult and Jan. 13 surgery. It seems slow compared to others posting, but I am so please with the lose. My surgeon, who is also someone I know personally, insists that I eat when it's time to eat, that I don't measure, and that I don't count any numbers. He wants me eating Protein first, followed with a bit of veggies, and a tiny amount of carbs are okay. When I eat I can tell when it is time to stop...but only if I eat slowly. The amount of food I end up eating at one sitting depends on what I am eating. There are lots of times I feel like I am able to eat way too much food, but then have to stop and compare it to what I was able to eat before surgery. I also see losing what some would consider slowly as a good thing. It is giving me time to adjust as I go. Good luck!

    Yoga

I would like to start doing Yoga...wanting a daily routine (of what ends up being my favorites) that I can do in the morning. I want to enjoy it and of course reap the benefits of it. Does anyone have a good website to recommend?
  6. You look amazing already! Thanks for sharing these pictures. Keep up the great work!

How to get rid of sugar cravings

To get my Calcium in and to satisfy my craving for something sweet, I use the Bariatric Advantage calcium chews. The chocolate is so much like eating a tootsie roll and the raspberry is like eating a starburst. A daily dose is 4! During the first month, I would also stick my finger in the Peanut Butter jar. Now, a little over three months out, I keep dark chocolate on hand and eat a square here and there.
  8. Every day gets better! Keep on walking...keep on drinking...keep on knowing you made the right decision. Best of luck!
  9. I was about two months out when I felt like I could drink tea or water normally. I can drink with a straw now, three months out, but not sure when that was possible. There were a few weeks that it seems I always wanted to drink more than I was able to handle...and when it was time to eat, I REALLY wanted to drink with the meal. Both of those things have subsided. Thanks goodness!

    Portable Snacks

I keep the single servings of Peanut Butter and chocolate pudding handy at all times, even now that I can eat anything. =-) Dallas

    sucker punched last night

That meal sound yummy. I am 11 weeks sleeved. I would be able to enjoy it. Just not the same way as before. Instead of wolfing the burger down and making my salad huge, I would take one or two nice bites of the burger, bun and all, and then I would eat the meat with alternate bites of salad until i got that, "This has to be the last bite or else" feeling. And when it was all said and done, I would have the same satisfied feeling I would have had eating the whole meal prior to being sleeved. I can't wait for you to see what I mean for yourself!

    Guess what?!

I am so happy for you...I remember the feeling when I got my date. Cloud 9! Good luck!

    Chewing Gum

I have never heard of not being able to chew gum post op until now. I think I chewed gum the day after surgery. I have always swallowed my gym when I am finished with it, but have since started spitting it out. I do remember swallowing a piece accidently a few days after surgery and freaking out for about a minute. But...thankfully it went through!
  14. I am two months sleeved...any type of beef works well for me. But cheese on a hamburger patty is horrid. For a while I didn't do well with chicken, but I am finally at a point where I can eat it comfortably. Pork has always been the best for me. I eat a lot of brat type sausages.

    Need to belch

My doctor said that carbonated drinks will not stretch the stomach or do any other damage, but will make you feel horrible which is why it is on the "no" list. I drank some diet coke a while bake, only a few swallow and it nearly killed me! lol

    Going to Disney before Surgery

I did Universal...both sides...three weeks before my surgery. I am 5' 9" and at that time was about 300. I did all the rides, there was one or two that was a very tight fit, but bless their hearts, they pushed and pushed until it clicked. Harry Potter was not one of them...it was more than easy to fit in. Also, you may not know this, but some of the rides have seats that have larger buckles, so there was one that I had to change seats in. And again, bless their hearts, they acted like something was wrong with the seat, and after they moved me, they didn't put anyone else in the seat I had to move from. Have fun!!!
  17. I am now restriction free. My doctor told me NOT to count anything, to simply eat. Lots of protein first, a little veggies next, and a tad of cards. He also said that if I am eating the right real foods, I will not need to supplement it with powders and such. It has been working....

    Need my sugar fix

I turn to sugar free pudding (Jello Dark Chocolate in the cooler section or rice pudding with added cinnamon, yum!), cocoa almonds, and sugar free fudge pops. Or a simple spoon full of peanut butter. And every once in a while, without guilt, I take a bit of whatever I want.

    I need to Vent...

My pre-op diet was 10 days and was very generous compared to what I read on here. I could have lean meats, cottage cheese, yogurt, Protein drinks, and unlimited cucumbers, radishes, cauliflower, and dill pickles. Still, I struggled, mainly because it hit me that there were so many things I may never be able to eat again. I would do great during the day, but at night I would finally just eat what I wanted. I posted on here asking what would happen and several told me they would open me up and close me back just as fast if they saw that my liver was not right. Five days before my surgery I chatted with a friend who was recently got a Lap-Band from the same doctor. She told me it would be okay, and to just finish the last 4 days strong. I did okay, but no where close to what I should have done the next two days, and then the last two days I did really good. My whole thought was...if I could do the pre-op diet, I wouldn't need the surgery in the first place. I was a bit nervous going in...and then when it was all said and done I asked my doctor to rate my liver one a scale of 1 to 10. He gave it a 10! Do you best....

    Can I Boycott Calcium???

I am taking 1000mg a day. I do Bariatric Advantage Chewy Bites. I get the chocolate and raspberry...take two of each. It's like eating Tootsie Rolls and Starburst I promise. Try them and you will not feel like you need to boycott calcium!!! GNC also has a caramel chew that's pretty good, and when you catch the buy one get one sale they are super cheap.

Can I start mushies a day early?

I was supposed to to do clears for a week, fulls for two weeks, and mushies for three weeks. After about 4 days of clears I called and asked if I could be advanced to fulls because I was doing well. The nurse said that my doctor was out for the day, but that if he were in he would probably say go ahead, but she, as the nurse would say to wait because she is the one that has seen the patients who have tried to push it. I went ahead and started full liquid because I knew I was ready. Then when I went in for my first follow up which was 10 days post op my doctor told me I could move to mushies. I went for my second follow up last week, one months and one day after surgery, and I was told i no longer had restrictions. I can eat what I want now and do any activity I want. I really think you can tell what you are ready for and what you are not ready for. And, if you make a mistake, you'll know it pretty quickly!

    Fish went down different...???

Fish goes down great for me...so does french fries, but not mashed potatoes. I do well with pork and beef, but not chicken or turkey???
  25. I am glad to hear the FDA lowered the required BMI. I highly respect my surgeon, who is also a friend, and he does Lap-Bands as well as Sleeves. He believes both are great tools to weight loss. We see not so great Lap-Band stories on here, but not success stories, because the tremendous amount of success stories are being told on the Lap-Band board. I know several people who have the Lap-Band and they love it.
