  1. ;)

    Hello Splashdancer,

I am waiting for insurance approval and hope to receive a yes answer soon. I too feel like you. I have not told my family for the same reasons you mentioned (ignorance, fear, anxiety) or just their negative opinions. I have 3 close friends that are my support group. If you have your husband who is really supportive, that is a blessing. Once your family sees how happy you are and how good you look, they will forget that you did not tell them.

I think this decision is a personal decision. It is your body and you have the right not to tell everyone what you are having done. I look at this as a time for me to be selfish for once in my life and do something that is for me. This is a huge decision and you don't need the added stress of other peoples opinions.

You hang in there and keep thinking real positive, and you will do well. I know you will!

Hello,It is a personal desision who you want to know about your own body,,but you dont want to have it on your coutious,if something may go wrong and you didnt tell anyone but you can always print off some of the info and share it with your family, the support is great because you will be in the hospital for 2 days and you will need the help around the house....they will be good to help and you can not do any lifting or even go to the store...so it is good to have family around to help....please reconsider and pick and choose who you want to know and also you want them to keep it confadential(you dont want anyone else to know....;)

  2. Thanks so much. My surgery is in two days in the Atlanta, GA area. I have been so nervous. My husband is so supportive but I have still not been able to bring myself to tell my family, meaning my four older sibs and two parents. My parents really shouldn't know till after the fact anyway due to their health. I haven't told my family (yet) since I can't imagine never telling them. I just I haven't been able to bear the thought of dealing with everyone else's questions, fear, anxiety and ignorance pre-surgery. I wonder how many people feel the same way. Thanks for your reassurance.

Hi Splashdancer, there is a lot of info on www.realiseband.com about the sleeve gastrectomy that you can print and share with your mom and dad but please in your own time share your good news with your parents you will need that added support, they will understand and thats the best part about parents (they dont Judge you)...I never regret telling my mom,my dad is deseased...so I do a lot of praying and tell everything to God He dont judge either...so If you need lots of friends come to my FB Page look me up under (Marnetta Miller)I have a group called VSG for me and you will love talking to the friends 1 on 1 .....its kinda kool.....you wont feel like you are in this all alone...ok....so please have a talk with your parents and let them know even though they may not understand why at first but just tell then you are doing this just for you and your health to live longer to take care of your children...dont forget look me up...ok

  3. Hi Lisa,I had a talk with my surgeon and with the haital harnia it is repaired durring the sleeve surgery so its now nuthing to really worry about, she said that it would be easyer for them to get too, some people dont get symptons too much from it but heart burn from the acid in the stomach,

just relax and when they do your procedure you will have it all done at the same time....my prayers are with you ..I am awaiting my final wt management then my info will be sent in for approval...Yeah....happy weight loss...camille01

  4. You all are so very welcome.I think the most thing they stress in the book is getting in the fluids.I have another booklet that stresses the inportants of getting in your proteins....it says that you will be extremely tired when you don't and you will be more pron to loose some of your hair without the protein....I hope you found your favorite....you have to get in atleast 75grams... that's at least 3 /22 to 25 grams ....work on it before you have your surgery....go through the taste test.....first......good luck everyone.....

  5. Hi Melissa,

I havnt had my surgery either,I am just like you ,I have done so much reaserch I thought I know more than the doctor,.....I had a friend that told me not to burn my self out....I really didnt know what she ment till I started going to the appointments...thats where the waiting comes in at ...I just hope that your insurance doesnt require for you to do the 6 months weight management program...thats what takes so long...........wow.....but once you make it through those ...time flyes...I hope the road goes well for you...and like I said before please dont burn yourself out with info....its a lot to take in at once...ive been reading up on this for 3 yrs...and once Imake it to see the doctor I forgot everything that I had read...you need to start writing down lots and lots of questions for the doctors..and when you do make sure you give him some ti let him know that you did your reasearch....make him think...take care and its a long walk just dont get tired.....much luck.....camille01

  6. ask your doctor to perscribe Zyban-Welburtrin,it works better that the patch, you dont have the continue flow of nicot.this is an antidepression it cuts the craving down to nothing...you startit for 5 days while you smoke and after the 5th day you put them down and wont want to pick them back up...this takes the craving away......and it really works both myself and my husband stopped together..taking the welbutrin....I wish you the best quiting...

  7. Hi ScentsLady, I can comprehend just what you are saying,my hubby was ok with me getting the lapband because he thought it wasn't so bad and I would be able to bounce right back but the more research I did the worst he became, boy oh boy when I told him that I was gonna have the vertical sleeve done he acted like I had made this desision for him,,he had a fit...but I sat down and explained it all to him then I told him I am doing this for ME and ME only not for him..and to even to extend my life with him and my kids...so when I found out the days of the support groups I asked him to go to 1 with me and just so happened my youngest daughter and my husband went..I was so excited that they did go to meet people that has had the surgery so that they can see that they are still normal even after thay had the surgery...I think they really appericate it a lil more..the idea of me wanting to do this for my health and just wanted to include them in they were ok with my desision to have the sleeve...so when you go to the support group meeting invite them to go with you...if they dont want to go then its on them...atleast you tryed to include them......I say go for it because I am going to for my health....I know in your blog that you want to be health..so have fun ---take lots of pictures now and all the wat through your journey so you have something to reflect back on and say I DID IT......good luck and my prayers are with you...

  8. hello...Luck..

thanks for your post,I think you are so incurraging to the rest of us but of course I can only speek for me.what was your starting weight if you lost 75lbs...and what is your weight now....did you have any regrets?and how do you feel being at a normal size? not that you weren't before, but how do you feel....I work at a stadium and have some lifting to do,what do you recommend and what time did you take off work, how long did you have off so I will know how long to ask for?...please keep us posted..thank you

  9. Hi Butrcupz,I dont know if this will help or not but I went to a support group 2/1/2011 and It opened up a few things that I wanted to know,(do you attend your support groups after your surgery)and If not Why and what keeps you from going?,,,,first its where you havn't been taking your (all of your vitimans)you have multi vitimans centrum with Iron or another 100% of what you need, vitiman d3,vit B6,B12,calcium,and most of all your PROTEIN....do you drink your protein? call your nutritionist and see what kind and how how much protein do you need to take per sitting, this is something you have to do for the rest of your life and we have to get used to it in order to be as beautiful as you are and keep that long curly hair that you got.....I dont want to seen hard or anything but those people that did your surgery are there to help you....and when you need them make sure that you use them to benifit you .thats what your insurance paid them $20.000 for.

I havnt had my surgery yet but I have been to several siminars and support group meeting,,,and I did learn a little....I hope everything gets better for you....by the way we have to pay a price to be beautiful...and the price of a wig is not too much...do you feel me?.....thanks for hearing me out .....camille01

you were talking about a CAT SUIT(meow)...do your thing girl...strut you stuff like you never have before,I am waiting on my turn,...only 1 thing Make sure you have your party before you go for your instructions because it will lay on your mind and you will be mad at your self,,but really let your hair down and have fun.....then you have to get serious...congradulation on getting your dates and everything Just go with the flow,,,,I still have a few things to complete,I have my 2nd support meeting this evening,I'm gonna try to go before the snow/Ice storm hit,I want my hubby to go with me but you know how that goes.....so I am gonna try to make that tomight at 6pm...I have the nutritionist and 2 more months of wt management left them I have to go back to the surgeon I will be complete,my surgery will probley be over the summer,,,pain in the butt because I wanted it a lil earlier so I can go to the beach,,,,but thats the way the ball bounces....hey keep in touch ,let me know how you are.....I need some one to get skinny with....camille01

  13. Thank you Marnetta.. I have found more than a handful of different books but I dont want to pull out my bank card and start buying usless material. Thank you for the response. I have not really looked much into the sleeve. What made you choose that over the band? Best of luck to you smile.gif

Hi Sunny,I was constantly doing research on the band,I was even looking it up about 2 yrs ago and I never thought I would have the guts to go through with it so once I started going to the siminars, at the hospital I had the chance to talk to the doctor about both procedures and she said that she prefered the sleeve over the band and I asked why ,she said that there is so many failed lapbands,so I asked her which one and she said both have had erosions and slipping,a was always been one to ask questions ans I wanted to know why was there so many failed bands she told me that once people lost the weight the band would slipp because they went back to there old eating habbits and for the erosions can in when they would get there fills they wouldnt know when to stop eating and would throw up and the stomach acid would erode the band but it would take a while for this to take place ,,,I am not to excited about having a second surgery...I want it done and done right the first time,,,with the sleeve you get your stomach cut down to a bananna size and it will streach it you do overeat...but you have to be commited to any of the procedures in order for them to work.....if you get a chance go to verticalsleevetalk.com and look around and read before you go through with the surgery ,,,I would rather you read and make up your mind than to have the surgery and be sorry if you feel that you have made a mistake....just read it so you can really say that you looket at it....camille01

  14. Hi Sunny,I have checked around for a few friend and the best place I have found out to get lapband cookbooks are Barnes and Nobels and they also have books on just Bariatric surgery,I havnt ordered any of them,I am looking into the sleeve surgery and I know that there is no books out for this surgery because it is realitivly a new procedure,so I wish you well on your hunt but please keep in touch with me and if there's anything I can help with please feel free to ask,,,if I dont know the answer I will find out ,....good juck on your journey....keep in touch because I am still on that trip to get to the journey too...

  15. some doctors require it and some dont, the main reason for the liquid it to shrink the liver,

I hope I dont have to diet first but it is also where you get it done at.hope your journey goes well

and is a happy one and Im sure thet what ever your parents do while they are there ,they will be right by your side

to will you well..that is what parents do keep us puzzled it the big show down...just pray and leave it it gods hands

and every thing will be ok...

  16. Wow - he really expressed his opinions huh? You have to do what's right for you. He doesn't live your life. Good luck on your journey. Keep us posted. Take care. smile.gif

  17. congradulations,I live in Nyc as well,In the Bronx, but I am having the sleeve,I was considering the band and got a lil scared,,,I tell you about it later...but I had my consult with the surgeon and I am gonna have the sleeve done in about 3 months or so....I wanta wish you the best with your surgery,...form 1 NYorker to another...keep in touch and let me know how you are and your journey is going......tell your sister she has done a very thoughtfull thing and she will be blessed,...keep posting and ill keep reading...camille01

  18. Diego is cute,I've heard lots of people say that walkimg helps but to each it own, what is good for 1 may not be good for the next....you know you are not suppose to have anything but water, protein, and jellos, and broths right,,,you are still very swolled,,,kinda like squeezing water through a tied balloon its just not happening....be good to your self, walk through the house, take meds & gas x..get plenty of rest.....recovery first then eating and exercise will come after the first week.....get well and enjoy your journey,,,make sure that you take plenty of pictures and make your own Brag book....it helps later to reflect back.....camille01

  19. Hi Barbara, your story is very inspirational because I am just starting my journey,I have done research for about 2 yrs, first it was the lapband and once I thought that was the surgery for me I never thought I could change my mind to have a surgery that was so drastical as having my stomach cut but once I did some more research on it and had the chance to talk to my surgeon she kinda put the Icing on the cake,I questioned her and she told me not to let her opinion persway me in anyway but It deffinately did,she says that the sleeve would be a better fit of a surgery for my,I question about the erosion of the band and the slippage ,she told me that it depends on the person, and there journey that there going to take but it does has its own flaws because if you have to vomite or loose weight to fast the band just may slip or ever erode...that kinda scared me..not to go with the band...so I am happy to read such a positive Blog...thank you ...I hope everything go well beyond your surgerversary...Thanks

  20. low fluid causes dehydration, and don't get frustrated just think about it when you were overweight you didn't want it to move ,at least I didn't ,not the way it normally moves, but dont be hard on your self 9 days is nothing, you must start with baby steps before you can walk.....thak your time because you dont want to fail...

  21. HI Theresa,i am glad to see that you are doing well and to let you know how encouraging your blog is,

I still have atleast 3 months to go,my insurance require that i have 6 months of weight management to complete,i've started getting my appointments setup i am done with 2 and have 4 left which I know that it will go fast, seing that friends on here are doing so well it lifts my spirits, congradulations on your progress and keep bloging because it helps me to see what I have to face soon,....thanks sleevless4now

  22. I'm on day 3 and I feel great. Better than I have in a long time. Lots of energy and my knees are not hurting. So I'm really excited about how much weight I will lose before the surgery. Sorry your having problems. I know I'm probably not what you wanted to hear but I was shocked how much I have gotten accomplished today instead of napping.

Thanks for the reply. Besides being dehydrated and not really knowing it, I was doing good. I'm down 13 pounds in 8 days. Good Luck to you and keep it up !!

the only thing I could think of is when you drink all day long you drink exerything but water,

we have a tendency to drink our required amount of protein, juices, skim milks, but no water and that has a lot to do with being lite headed,if it keeps up please call your doctor and let her know,or you can just wait and find out what your doctor will tell you because tooo much protein is like eating a pot of beans and not washing it down with nothing, you are getting your protein but just not enough water.....

  23. I really want to thank each and everyone of you for your encouragement,I was really excited after I left the doctors office because after I wrote down all my questions and the doctor answered them her self I felt that she took that special intrest in me,and I had a chance to make up my mind as to the procedure that I really want,I can tell you after I left and went to a group meeting I was so incited I really had my eyes wide opened to the testamonies....my heart went out to the people that had already had the surgery and came to share there experiance,,I think I want to set the fine example and be able to share my story to incurrage people too.....It really makes you feel really good...I just want to thank you all for your help...now I have my work cur out for me...I have 3 months left 4 more appointments left and I am finito-finished.....camille01
