    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

So today I am 4 weeks out. I am down 32 pounds however that also includes the 2 week preop. I am just a tiny bit disappointed but I know it will come off and 32 pounds is nothing to sneeze at. I've gone from a BMI of 52.2 to a BMI of 47.5 and have lost 19% of my weight. I was going to check my measurements but decided it would be easier to do it on the 13 of each month rather than every 4 weeks. Hope everyone has a great weekend!

My list of soft foods includes deli meat. So, I get 2 different deli meats (usually London broil roast beef and turkey) and I measure out 3 ounces for lunch and dinner. There's about 20 g of Protein in the deli meat. You can also have chicken salad, egg salad, tuna salad. I'm not a fish person but I think most baked fish is "soft." I do deli meats, string cheese, unsweetened applesauce. I can even have regular chicken if it is cooked in a crock pot and very moist. Hope that helps!

I cannot stand the Bariatric Advantage multi or chewable Iron. Yuck! They are sour but not good like Sweetarts. I feel sick after having either one. I went back to my gummy Vitamins from WalMart. I was told not to have them only because they don't have everything we need in them. I figure it's better than nothing! I even tried just cutting the chewable iron in 2 pieces and swallowing them whole, and still didn't feel good. I'll go back to my regularly prescribed iron tablets soon.

What stage of your postop diet are you in? At 3 weeks, I was having soft foods. Some people are still on full liquids during week 3 and some are on pureed foods. That will help us give you ideas!

Are your incisions better? The pain in your stomach and back, could it be constipation? Have you been going regularly? If your incisions are not better, I think you're far enough out that maybe they should be looked at. I was sleeved on the 13th and 4 of mine are barely tiny scratches and 1 has a circular scab and still healing. Hope you feel better!

I've heard many talk about the stitch but my doc didn't mention it. My big incision was to the right of my belly button. My intense pain was where they put the port through the muscle and pull the stomach out. They then stitch the muscle back together. Every time I got up and down, I just had a ripping burning pain. Doc agreed my terrible pain was definitely the muscle.

Hi Deez! Glad to sew you are progressing! When I was first swallowing things, it didn't hurt but I could definitely feel it all the way down the middle and feel the burps crawl all the way back up! It's also been so long since you've had anything to drink at all, might take just a little notre time to be regular again. Have they tried anything warm yet to see if that is any easier? Continued positive thoughts your way!

You're welcome. My husband is very regular and we don't usually discuss those kinds of things but the day after I was finally able to go, he had it too! He was miserable even after it passed! I guess your fam needs a little taste of what you're going through! Hang in there!

I'm sorry you're having a setback! I was overly cautious and still won't bend over or lift anything! (lucky I have an amazing husband). Do you have any pain meds or taking any Tylenol? I had horrible pain there that only stopped yesterday, and my surgery was the 13th. I'm sorry I don't have any words of wisdom for you but I hope you recover quickly and hopefully have something for pain.

It is definitely not easy, and pretty exhausting when it's over. When it is over, please continue on daily stool softeners and something like MiraLAX. Are you still on pain meds? They are very constipating. Hope it passes soon!

Hi Sandi, You may also try milk of magnesia. I never have constipation but did after coming home from the hospital even though I immediately started MiraLAX and colace. I had to take the milk of magnesia. Unfortunately, what's already there is not going to soften. It really is going to be a lot of work to get it out and probably not easy. Be careful thinking it's moving because a little is coming out. Sometimes the stool softener soften what's behind the constipation and that can squeeze out around the blocked stool. Some people find putting their feet up on a foot stool while sitting on the toilet, a better position (sort of like squatting). Please be careful and don't be afraid to go to the ER if necessary.

Hi Meg, if the rash doesn't seem go go away with the hydrocortisone, try yeast infection cream. I sometimes, esp in the summer, would get yeast rashes in some folds of skin. I buy the generic 7 day yeast kit in the feminine product aisle as it has the biggest tube of cream in it.

Shrug it off and don't do it again! Maybe try to steer clear of those places. I know it would be hard for me not to get some Cici's buffalo chicken pizza! You know what all that stuff tastes like and one day, you can have it again! Are you on any type of foods yet? If not, then I would fill up on a protein shake before taking the kids to get their food. You can do this!

Hi Deez! I hope your spasms have slowed down! I'm sorry you're stuck in the hospital, but I tell you, I wish I could have stayed more than one night! I know you have a family to get back to, though! Glad the cath and heart monitor are removed. Are you able to get up and walk around? I slept pretty well but did find myself getting up to use the restroom about every hour due to the IVs. Thankful you're not experiencing any hunger (in your head or tummy!) as I'm sure that would be even more difficult! Hopefully by the time you get home, you won't even need any pain meds! You'll be so far along by then! Continue being your usual positive self! So many people pulling for you on this side!

Sorry you are having a hard time with your protein. How much longer until you can have soft foods? Have you tried any of the ready to drink Isopure drinks? I've heard you can buy them at GNC to try the flavors before buying bigger packs online. Maybe thinner drinks like that would help? I know you said you can't have powders, but I know when I switched from ready to drink premier protein drinks to unjury chocolate powder, the unjury are much thinner and I was able to drink it pretty quickly. Hang in there and keep sipping! I'm 7 days ahead of you and can drink water easily but I still only get 48 ounces in. It's a full time job!

    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

    - I was sleeved on dec12 and still struggling to get in minimum 50g protein and 48oz water per my NUT On a good day I'm probably getting in around 300 calories -- 30g protein and 32 oz water Incredibly weak these days too; lost about 25lbs in 3 weeks since surgery Didn't think 3 weeks out would look like this but it should get better I had hiatal hernia repair same time so I believe that is my greatest challenge ... I actually broke down and cried while on the phone with my NUT the other day; it hurt so bad to sip anything Im doing a bit better with sipping now due to the carafate solution my surgeon prescribed me but still not easy -- I'm thankful for the tiny progressions Best wishes to you!! I hope you continue to feel better each day, Sandi. I have heard many say that the additional hiatal hernia repair was more painful. Are you able to get any liquid vitamins in to help with weakness? What about some Gatorade type of drink mixed with your water? I did that the first week as I was afraid of becoming dehydraded. Have you tried any of the isopure drinks? Or the unjury chicken broth? I mixed some Better Than Bouillon chicken paste into the Unjury chicken and it was good. Maybe having something warm might be easier? Hang in there!!

I have the really dry skin too, but also think it has some to do with it being winter plus the release of water weight in the beginning. Depending on your back pain, it could be kidney pain from dehydration. I was really worried about dehydration the first week so I did half gatorade and half water for the first week. Glad you will be seeing your doctors to stay on top of everything!

Try not to give in to the carbs. They only make you want more. We only have a year, give or take, to maximize our success with this opportunity. You've had as lifetime of chocolate. You know what it tastes like. You can have a taste again after you reach goal, but even then it will be a slippery slope. Hang in there!

Welcome to the group mooncat! You are doing great! Please don't compare yourself to others, we are all so different! We have different physical stats, food and exercise programs, some had preop and some didn't. Plus our bodies are just different. However, we have all been given the same tool. Fast or slow, as ling as its moving in the right direction! Mine hasn't been moving at all! I'm definitely stalled but it has to move at some point! To get a ticker (the thing at the bottom) I think you have to be on a desktop and then you click up on your profile up on the top right and hit my tickets. It will walk you through how to create one.
