  1. It might be different for you. My friend only needed one infusion and never needed another one.

    Gallbladder and VSG

I'm interested in this too! I see all the posts about constipation after the sleeve but I've had chronic diarrhea for over a year since by gallbladder was removed. Wondering what to expect.
  3. I think it just takes one infusion.
  4. You look awesome! Great work!

    Exercise

Hello! I am preop but in the past I exercised a lot. I prefer walking outside, it's easier to get lost in thought. I like the trails at state parks. The dirt is softer on the body than sidewalk or pavement. When I would do the treadmill at the Y, I would hop on 15 minutes into my favorite 1 hour tv show, that way I would stay on it until the end of my show. Also, on the treadmill, if you increase the incline just a bit every so often, it burns a lot more calories. If you can set different programs, I used to like the random program as it would incline and decline randomly by itself, changing it up a bit, less boring! Good luck!

    Biotin for hair loss

Too funny, I did the same thing!! I am preop too, with no date yet but thought I would go ahead and start. I'm taking 5,000 twice a day! Figured it might not help but couldn't hurt! Good luck!

    Goal weight?

I'm 5'4" and I'm really hoping to make it to a c'normal' BMI which would mean getting under 145. Not sure if that's possible with all the extra skin I will have, but I'm going to try. I'm 40 and will be starting at 310 pounds.

    Raising money to private pay

My doctor's office also accepted Springstone financing along with Care Credit.

    Raising money to private pay

Did you try Care Credit? I tried United Health Medical because my husband already had a Care Credit card. He asked for an increase in his limit because it was at $4100 and we hadn't used it in 2 years. They only increased it to $7500. United Health Medical was going to give me $7600. I applied for my own Care Credit. I asked for $18,500 as that's how much my surgery will be and they gave me a limit of $16,700!! So, with Care Credit, his card and mine, we have it covered. Good luck!
  10. Glad you mentioned that. You are NOT supposed to take iron with Calcium. Since I usually eat Cereal with milk in the morning (preop) I take my iron at night.
  11. I don't know that she got it from her PCP, just saying I will talk to my PCP about ordering it. My iron is prescribed and that's what the bottle says, so I guess it isn't too much, especially since I'm not absorbing it.
  12. My best friend had gastric bypass 2 years ago. She had an Iron infusion where the gave her iron intravenously and it took a few hours. She couldn't take the iron pills because of the constipation. I am on prescription iron. I take 975 mg every day and it's still a little low. I will ask my PCP about an iron infusion before my sleeve. Clearly my stomach doesn't absorb the iron well. You're stopped up on 195 mg a day and I still have chronic diarrhea on 975 mg a day.
  13. I wonder if I have this. I have random nausea and lately, my upper stomach just hurts. I'm preop, so this is just my regular ole stomach. Hmm...

2 years out and still obese. :(

I totally agree with this ^^! For me, I LOVE hiking. That doesnt mean climbing a mountain but just going to the state parks and walking their trails. I love being outdoors. The dirt paths are easier on the body than cement or pavement. It's also such a great way to clear your head. I pick the longest trail and usually takes 2 hours and I prefer to go by myself just to enjoy it all. I challenge myself to finish faster than the time before.

2 years out and still obese. :(

Thank you for posting! I'm not sleeved yet. However, I was just talking with my husband today and said I hoped I would be able to not even "try" the foods that I shouldn't eat. I'm hoping to be able to treat them like drugs, so instead of trying bread or Pasta to see if I can eat them, I hope to never find out in the first place and assume that I can't tolerate them! I actually like low carb foods and really enjoy exercising, just harder to do these days at this weight. Since you've only regained 8 pounds so far, it's a great time to nip it in the bud and get back to it! I'm hoping to have my surgery in December. What advice would you be giving me? Let's do this!

    Help

Maybe increase your protein so you don't have room for the starch. Also, from what I've read, maybe your aim shouldn't be to be full but just not hungry. I think increasing the protein, it should take longer to digest. The starch, carbs, will make you hungrier sooner. Hope that helps.
  17. Maybe I misunderstood the OP but it seems like she is confused by her preop diet. I think that if they said liquid only and they sent you home with Protein drinks, then you are not going to "eat" but will only be consuming protein drinks until your surgery. Seem to be a lot of variety to the protein drinks, some clear and some with milk consistency. You can call the office and clarify tomorrow but it sounds like you are on a liquid only Protein Drink diet until the surgery. Good luck!

    Change in Eye Sight?

Mine did that after my gallbladder surgery. It was the pain meds. My eyes were blurry. I took out my contacts, not better. Looked in the mirror and they were hugely dilated. I stopped taking the meds since they weren't helping anyway. Took a couple of days until it cleared up.
  19. You can put "flipped" into the search box for some posts.

    Walking Isnt Enough

The Y usually offers discounts. You can ask fir the financial aid application and see if you qualify.

    Snacks?

I bought a dehydrator on amazon and a jerky gun for homemade jerky. I buy the nesco jerky flavoring and you can leave out the 'cure' to reduce the salt. You can use steak without the gun, BUT with the different tips included with the jerky gun, you can make softer round ones more similar to a Slim Jim or a flat one that amazingly make the ground beef feel like steak like Jack Links. You have to use the lean ground beef and it makes a very large batch. Without the cure, you have to keep it in the fridge or even freeze some. The cure allows you to leave it out on the counter for about a week and a half. The original flavoring packet is so very tasty. There are different flavors but I haven't tried any others.

    Gallbladder

That is just amazing! I had mine removed and only had ONE stone! I can't even imagine what having all of that felt like! I was miserable with my one! Glad it's out!

    Question for Women of Color...

I am clearly not a woman of color but I do have about an inch and a half scar on my chest from a year ago from where a small skin cancer was removed. It did turn into a keloid which the Dermatologist said is where the skin over heals. He told me to massage the incision several times a day. He said the Mederma only works when you put it on all day because you are basically just massaging the area. A year out now and it is still darker in color but it has mostly flatened out. It started in the middle and is now working its way to the sides. He said if I wanted to, he could inject it with cortisone which would reduce the inflammation. I haven't had the sleeve surgery yet but last year I had the gallbladder removed and those 3 little incisions are not even visible. If the keloids bother you or are just unsightly to you, you can go to a dermatologist and see if they will inject it with cortisone.

When do you start dropping sizes?

I haven't been sleeved yet, but a few years ago, I decided to work really hard and try to lose weight. I exercised 6 days a week, hiked more than 5 miles 3 days a week, ate less than 1000 cal a day and drank only Water...it was 50 pounds before I lost ONE clothing size! Talk about disheartening. All that hard work and had to lose 50 pounds before buying smaller clothes. Clearly, I must have been stuffed into the size I was wearing, but still! I sure felt good, though, doing all that exercise! Looking forward to it again. As stated above, I'm sure when it happends, it will happen quickly!

    Cereal

I have not had surgery but when I consulted a nutritionist in the past, she said to make sure cereal and bread had more fiber than sugar. I know the Fiber One Honey Clusters is tasty and has more fiber than sugar.
