    Measures, Measures, Measures

Hi Bea! I have been waiting ever since you posted this to be able to start using it! I'm now on my preop diet and plugging the numbers in every day! I have a question regarding the Predictions (Preop) and Actuals (postop) sections. These 2 sections did not automatically plug in my dates. In the actuals, it is updating my weight and BMI, but the dates are still wrong. The dates posted in the top cell of those two sections are 8/30/13. My preop started 11/30/13 and my surgery date is 12/13/13. So, I'm not sure which date should even go on top for Month 1 and I'm not sure what or how to change it to autopopulate. Excel is so, so foreign to me! Do you have any suggestions? Thanks so much!

    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

To all of the newer folks who may not have seen this, I posted a link to this amazing spreadsheet that another sleever posted. She posted hers and since so many people loved it, she created a blank one for us to copy and use! It's been so fun weighing every day so I can post my numbers on the spreadsheet! http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/264421-measures-measures-measures/?hl=%2Bgeek#entry2969647

    No Scrpit : (

I think all the meds work differently. I have a terrible time with nausea after surgery, even with the patch behind the ear so I am very willing to pay $90 for this wonder drug. The anesthesiologist's NP was saying something about the patch being for motion sickness and did I have that and I said yes! She didn't want me to have the patch and the Emend but finally consented. This is my 3rd surgery so hoping the 3rd times a charm!

    Getting In My Daily Calories

I was also wondering what is "everything you're reading"? Did that come for your surgeon/nutritionist? I think that is more calories than most people maintain on after they reach their goal. I left my preop today and we were all told to aim between 600 and 800 calories with more than 60 grams of Protein.

    No Scrpit : (

Was that Emend? My surgeon's office gave us one today. It is an anti-nausea medication. We only get 1 and we're supposed to take it the minute we walk in the hospital door. They said it works wonders. It's expensive and they told us insurance won't cover it. It's hard to find, supposedly. My WalMart said they could get it by tomorrow and it is $90 for 1 pill. It wasn't required but recommended.
  8. I'm scheduled for the 13th too! I am on day 5 of a 2 week preop. THe first 4 days were easier for me. Today had been rough. Today was also my all day preop thing which was a 4 hours class, meeting with the surgeon again and then on to the hospital to register and anesthesiology. I'm on a very limited menu as I don't like yogurt and things with artificial sweetener. So, I'm doing 3 shakes a day, 2 unsweetened applesauces and 1 cup of broth. I'm using the Better Than Boullion chicken base instead of just broth. I was going to add seasoning to it but it was already seasoned enough for me. I tried the Swanson's infused broth (mexican tortilla I think it's called) and for me, it smelled better than it tasted. Today, I drained a can of minestrone soup and added some water and Better Than Boullion beef base to it and that was tasty. Join us in the December 2013 Sleevers Come In thread! There are over 150 people on the surgery list. You can see who else is on or around your date.

I'm looking forward to that too. The hospital I'm using also has a bariatric unit. My surgeon doesn't use drains either. They said his complication rate was 0.1%. They said that the very few leaks that they've had (and they were pin hole leaks that basically heal themselves while they watch you closely) were patients who were smokers.

    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

So I had my last nutrition/postop class today. It was good. There were 4 of us with 2 sleevers, 1 bander and 1 bypasser! My postop diet will be 1 week full liquids. Supposed to drink a shake 2 ounces every 15 minutes and finish in the hour. Weeks 2, 3 and 4 are soft foods with 3 meals and 2 snacks with one meal being a shake. They're recommending 1 shake a day forever just to make sure to get the protein in. Week 5 and beyond, cleared to try absolutely anything! Sounds scary. I will take my time on that one! Because of my history of a kidney stone, my fluids goal should be 80 ounces to 100 ounces a day (that is anything without caffeine equals a "fluid"). In all stages, the protein goal is more than 60 grams of protein and between 600 and 800 calories. They gave us all a prescription for a new? antinausea medicine called Emend. It is very expensive and they said insurance wouldn't cover it. They said it was hard to find and $75 for 1 pill. However, my WalMart said they could have it by tomorrow and it was $90! They said it was worth the money. You take it before surgery (not after you are already nauseated) and apparently it drastically cuts down the nausea from anesthesia afterwards. She said even a staff member recently had the sleeve and she had no problem with nausea at all! It wasn't required but as I have a history of bad recoveries, I'm getting it! Also due to my pain issues, he is giving me Dilaudid, so I'm glad to have a doctor actually listen!

    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

I am staying another night too. I want to make sure my pain is manageable on po meds. My right side hurts the most too. Doc sats its where they pull the stomach out and there are some internal stitching. The nurse told me most people stay 2 nights its rare to go home after one day. On a funny note, anyone do anything crazy on versed before the surgery? i apparently held my hands up and screamed "wooo im on a rollercoaster!!" while being wheeled to or. I also told my sister i thought i was drunk. Lol! anyone else? It's interesting because the people at my surgical group all look at me like I'm crazy when I say I'll need to stay ONE night! They said NO ONE ever stays overnight. I had spoken with the surgeon and told him I had issues with pain and pain meds not working and so he said he would do mine at the hospital and keep me overnight. When they called to schedule my surgery, I told her I was supposed to stay at the hospital overnight and she said that never happens. I was worried but when I saw the surgeon for the last time today, he confirmed that he was keeping me overnight to make sure my pain was controlled. They automatically send you home with roxicet but he told me he'd send me home with Dilaudid, which also caused the staff to look at me weird. Apparently at this place, I'm the oddball out!

    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

Ok how was the class? I have some of the chocolate Unjury at home. I'm going to use that instead. I'm super excited and nervous too! How is your pre op diet going?? The class was good. Basically two parts, the nutritionist and then the office manager. They both touched on the same things. We had 4 in our group and there were 2 sleevers, 1 bypasser and 1 bander so they had to cover info for all 3 surgeries. We got handouts. I didn't purchase the "kit" with the protein stuff and vitamins and shaker bottle. They went over the stages, vitamins, exercise. Then when that was done, one at a time we went to speak with Dr. Johnson one more time before surgery! My preop is going pretty well. My days 1-4 were very easy. Today I had more of an issue (however, any second now it will be that time of the month so I think that is playing a role) but I have not cheated at all. My diet consists of 3 shakes, 2 unsweetened applesauces and a cup of chicken broth. Along with water. Looking forward to going through this with you!

You can do a search for protein drinks. A lot of people ask opinions on those and everyone has their favorites! I've tried 3. I've tried the Body Fortress Strawberry from Wal-Mart and don't like it at all. I've tried the chocolate ready to drink Premier Protein from Sam's and it is now tolerable. I hold my breath and drink it really fast! I've also tried the chocolate splendor from Unjury and love it! The chicken broth flavored protein powder from Unjury is good too!

    Maybe 1 clears, 1 full liquids, 2 puree and 2 soft/mushy? I don't know but I thought generally there were 4 stages.

    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

I can only imagine myself a little smaller (size 20). I've been that weight since I left high school and now I'm 40! I can't imagine being any smaller than that and really have no clue what that could look like on me! Even though I've been heavy chested forever, I'm really hoping that area deflates like everything else does! I think I wore a size 10 when I was 12! At that point, I was "big" because I was bigger than my friends. Imagine being a size 10 now? lol I'm hoping to get to a healthy BMI and then see what size that is! Good luck to all of us! Almost done with day 4 of liquids! I was whining that there was food at work (i'm a nanny) and his text reply was "Yucky food. It has worms." It was good for a laugh! He's sweet. Tomorrow is my all day preop and last visit with the surgeon. Will be a long day with lots of info!

    2 Week Pre-Op Diet

I am not working out. I'm having knee and hip issues that um hoping weight loss will help. However, I am on day 4 also and I'm also doing very well. I am so relieved! I certainly WANT all kinds of foods but I'm a rule followerer and have been moving along just great! Also surprised that I am not tired.
