Bmi 30 - Am I Crazy To Be Thinking About This?

No, it won't but it will keep one satisfied with less food for longer
  2. a stuck episiodde usually comes from eating to fast, no chewing well enough, or generally not following the rules (so most say)...I say we're human and behaviours are the hardest things to change. I think bands are fickle depending on what time of month, day or your level of stress. All I'm saying is don't worry that it feels easier, because it (IMHO) shouldn't necessarily feel harder. If you can stay with the satisfied feeling for 4-5 hours and the food goes down easier...well I'd take that scenario any day of the week. When you say restriction what is it you really mean? Is it that you are physically restricted by the band in the amount yuo are able to eat? Here's a great piece on laband and restriction... the purpose of the band is not restriction; the purpose of the band is to lose weight by suppressing the appetite. http://drsimpson.net/fills/Lap-band-eating/lap-band-not-restriction/lap-band-and-restriction.html
  3. Not to me. How many fills have you had. How did they verify you had a leak? I'm so sorry if you have to have another surgery....I suffered a slip 6 months in and had to have the band repositioned...not nice. Faster recovery though

Carb Cycling- An Experiment Gone Right!

Brilliant Mis...it's great how you can work it around lifestyle too!
  5. a fill is not meant to make food harder to go down or limit what you eat. A fill is simply to get the right pressure on the vagus nerve that will then trigger the I'm not hungry response and allow you to go 4-5 hours between meals.

Bmi 30 - Am I Crazy To Be Thinking About This?

Who are any of us to say that someone who has a 30 bmi isn't "heavy" enough for the band? Do we know how many times she's gained and lost the same 40 or 50 pounds? We're not talking about 10lbs here, we're talking about 46 lbs to get to the top end of the bmi for healthy weight. And if she dieted down there....who's to say she wouldn't gain it back? What the right bmi for the OP? I agree WLS is not a quick fix. But OP...do some more research on what banded life is like and you're real reasons for not being able to maintain weight losses. Make your decision based on that for you.

    9 Months And 152 Pounds

Well done Mis...you've truly done an amazing job to date and I'm sure the remaining weight will fly off too. Your advice and guidance has been a huge support to this community and to me, an almost 2 yr out Bandster. Well done lady!

    Protein Smoothie Liquid Base...

Diet sodas have carbonation, so most Drs would advise against it

    Omgosh Taco Soup

    I think I'll try that...sounds yummy
  10. I agree with TKW. Try having a bit of an unfill. It does sound like you are too tightened just causing constant irritation of the band. You might be surprised that you'll be able to eat more than shakes and actually lose weight
  11. How long have you been vomitting for and what is causing the vomitting?

    Salad

Whenever you're allowed to eat regular food, that is when you re most likely allowed to have a salad.
  13. Kay, if your band is truly around the middle of your stomach I'd get an unfill right away. It sounds like it's quite likely that it will need to be moved back in place as that seems like a fairly large slip. You are likely able to eat more as the portion above your band is now much larger and can hold more in volume. On top of all of the, if the band is in the middle of your stomach, then it's not likely applying pressure to the vagus nerve which is what ( I believe) assists in acute ing the full feeling and keeping it with less food. Of course your best first course of action is to see a barbaric surgeon with expire nice with the band. I myself suffered from a slip over a year ago...not a fun experience...
  14. Double thumbs up Jacqui....I wish the band was in Canada the first or second time I lost 80, 50 or 25 pounds. I was a low bmi...I got surgery not because I couldn't lose it...that's the easy part. I got it because I could never maintain the loss. I can't judge who should or should not be banded...I can simply relay my story.
  15. Timeformyself...I was banded @ SWLC with a bmi of 33. If I had 25 pounds to lose I would likely not consider WLS...or maybe I would if I'm always losing weight only to gain it again. Vanity is a devilish beast and each one of us battle with it in one way or another...

    Swlc Or Slimband......

I was revised by Dr Coburn. His bedside manner, knowledge of the band and obesity are only some of the things that amazed me. I was in France when my band slipped. I emailed SWLC and the nurses prior to boarding my emergency flight to Toronto and by the time I landed and turned on my phone, I had emails, text messages and voice messages from the nurses and Dr Coburn. I went straight to the emergency room where he had all the test requests lined up and he appeared within 10 minutes of my checking in and was there for the duration. At the clinic, the discretion, attention and compassion is second to none. I believe Dr Coburn is the Dr in Canada with the most band procedures under his belt. He has my vote 110%
  19. Your Dr is probably right...you probably can lose most, if not all of that weight on your own...if you're like many of us on here that got the band, we've all lost it at least once. This issue is not losing it, but keeping it off. You wil hae to eat a reduced amount of food for the rest of your life...the band helps with that. Don't worry about whether they will deny you...your goal is not only to lose weight...but to keep it off too. Great job on being such a loser
  20. Sounds like they did Elcee...crazy as it seems it didn't resolve the problem
  21. I just read somewhere to drink something really cold before dinner and it will tighten you up. I javen't tried it myself as yet...
  22. Lydssss...couldn't have said it better myself! I have so much respect for Dr Coburn and his dedication to not only his patients, but patients banded by other Drs as well. I wasn't originally banded by Dr Coburn, but I was "fixed" by him. SWLC is tops in my book and Dr Coburn is ( I believe) the lead surgeon for # of lapband procedures in Canada.
  23. SWLC has lifetime fills...they can choose to end that in 5 years. Dr Conurn works extremely well with Drs all over Canada for those who fly in to have this procedure. Have you had a phone consult yet with Dr Coburn? If not, I encourage you to set one up. He is amazing and he will help work you through it, even if you end up with the decision not to use SWLC. Nis track record is amazing

2Nd Fill And Already Too Tight!!!!!

I'm not understanding how you can be at maximum restriction. With only 2 fills in your band, you should have lots of room for more. As you lose weight, you will lose fat around the stomach and the band will loosen. A small unfill will likely help with weight loss Hang in there

A Rock And A Hard Place

I recommend you be completely honest with you surgeon or fill nurse that you're having trouble keeping things down. From what you describe, it sounds like you're in the red zone and could do with a tiny unfill. It might surprise you that you could actually lose more weight will a slight defill. You'd be able to eat the lean solid proteins and vegetables required to lose the weight and not feel the need for slider foods. There will alway be more opportunities for fills. I believe that the people who suffer many problems with the band are the ones too aggressive with the fills. My thought process is: with each fill you may need to relearn how to eat slightly. Whether it be chewing more, smaller bites or slowing down between bites, each fill changes the bands restriction on your stoma. Slow and easy is the band friendly way (IMHO)
