First of all, shame on all of you for acting like it's his fault. There is not a thing wrong with eating a hot dog with out the bun or even a tiny piece of the bun and no where in his statement did he say if the bun was included. That doctor and the hospital both should have done an ultrasound, x-ray or floroscopy to check on the band. This guy is not a doctor. He told his doctor what was going on and having no restriction and the man STILL put Fluid in without checking to see how much was already in there. That to me seems careless. My doctor always pulls out whats there before giving my anymore to make sure I have no leaks.
I say yes. Go for it. Make them pay for your new band and the hospital bill you incurred.

I drink beer often. I have no problems with it but I count my calories. Having the surgery has not changed the way how fast alcohol affects me. I think it's different for everyone just make sure you account for your calories and take it slow when you have your first drink until you know how it will affect you. And also don't drink until you are fully healed (6-8 wks after surgery).

I was thinking that in this point in time, while I'm in banster hell, it would help keep me from starving. And it DOES work. I lost a lot with it before, I just didn't maintain my habbits when I stopped taking them. I only have about 3cc's right now and I'm hungry all the time. I'm using will power, but it sure would be nice to lose the hungry feeling until I have enough Fluid in my band.

I wonder that too especially now that I have made lifestyle changes that include eating right most everyday and exercising several times a week. But knowing my previous tendencies, I'm sure I still made the right decision because the band gave the motivation I needed to make it this time. I refuse to be a surgery failure. And it will always be there with me, my security blanket.

Thanks everyone!!!! Bluetigereyes...YES...there was LOTS of things that were hard to post but the support that I received from everyone here was absolutely AMAZING and truly helped me through some of the toughest times. In fact, I have made some amazing friends because of LBT. I shared so much because I felt that if I was going through that, chances are there was someone else out there going through it too and I knew what they were feeling. I am a much stronger person today for everything that I have been through. I have NO regrets in life...everything happens for a reason and our past is what makes us who we are.
I have an appointment tomorrow with the high risk pregnanc doctors. I will be receiving an anatomy sonogram and an echo of the babys heart. Let me just tell ya...he must know about tomorrows visit because he is kicking the heck out of me this morning...lol.
About the cancer scare...I received a call from my Oncologist yesterday. He took the films from my last two ultrasounds to a cancer review board meeting and discussed my case. My surgeon and my Radiation Oncologist were both breast at this meeting. They were all of the opinion that the changes within my breast were pregnancy related, however, there is a new nodule that was located in my December ultrasound which they are concerned about. He advised that he wants a repeat ultrasoun (which is scheduled for February 9) and then to meet with my surgeon (appointment for February 13) so he can compare the films and will most likely schedule me for a biopsy. I'm scared and worried but I realize that it's beyond my control and whatever happens will happen. I have an amazing team of doctors and I have total faith in all of them. I know that I have wonderful support from friends and family and that I will make it through whatever obsticles are thrown my way.
Again, I want to thank all of you guys...you really cannot imagine how much your support over the years has meant to me...for all of the new LBT members who have read through my thread...thank you very much!!!
On another note...I forgot just how much I hate being fat...I cannot wait to get this baby out of here and back on my exercise and diet routine...I am absolutely miserable and I have quite a way to go...I keep looking at my profile picture and I just wanna cry...

Got a call from the fraud dept with my credit card company today...they made me hold, then an account representative came on the line to ask me if a recent "uncharacteristic" purchase in the amount of $119 paid to bodybuilding.com was a legit purchase.
I literally laughed my butt off. I said, geez! Can't a girl have a new years resolution?! I confirmed the charge, which was my post op Protein powders, and one item I ordered for my mom, and the account rep wished me well...just thought I would share with you guys, hopefully you find it as funny as I did!!

I slacked through out the holidays and am just now starting to get back on track. I managed to maintain without gaining anything but now I'm ready to see the scale start moving again. I want to lose at least 40 pounds by summer so I can wear a swimsuit without being embarrassed. For the past few days I have been drinking my Water like I'm supposed to and as of today I am eating right again. Now all I need to do is add in some exercise (which I am planning on going to work out in the morning). Good luck to everyone. Let's all kick our own behinds to stick with it!

I wouldn't let them sway you or discourage you. A couple key things to point out:
RNY is permanent and irreversible. Lap-Band is 100% reversible.
RNY reroutes your digestive system. Lap-Band doesn't.
RNY patients commonly have malnutrition issues. Lap-Band patients typically don't.
RNY patients can stretch their pouch and be out of luck. Lap-Band patients can stretch their pouch, get a fill, or even adjusted with minor surgery but we can be helped.

Lap-Band is a slow, steady weight loss. It's a tool, not a magic bullet, and we must do the work and be committed to a lifestyle change. I'm sure there a few people that won't find the success with Lap-Band, but there's also people who don't find it with RNY either. If you read these forums, 85% of the people not losing weight, or gaining weight, will freely admit they made mistakes either by not eating healthy, eating too much and finding ways to eat around the band, or total lack of activity. They know why it's not working for them and they know what they must do to change it.
You sound very certain this is what you want, so stick to your guns and do what you believe to best for you.
Oh and as for your weight? I started at 421 pounds. My surgery was just 2 weeks ago and my current weight is 387 pounds. Between the pre-op diet and these 2 weeks after I've already lost almost 35 pounds.
I outweigh you by a lot, and yet here I am, and so far I'm doing great with it.

Is that the only support group available in your area? Maybe you can find a different one that isn't so negative. It is supposed to be a SUPPORT group not a discouragment group. If they can't support your decision you may be better off finding a different group and you know you can always come here for plenty of ENcouragement and advice. Good luck and don't let them change your mind about lap band if that's what you truly want.

The sites been down for the last 36 hours....sorry about the inconvenience and welcome back people! We had some major hardware failure which caused major data corruption. We relocated our server cluster and worked the last 36 hours to restore all the bits and pieces back together again. We've put new safeguards in place so this won't ever happen again.

whitetiger011680 reacted to BeautifullyBanded in Lapband And Cancer
Hello everyone! In 2008 and 2009 I underwent Chemotherapy and Radiation Therapy for a rare form of cancer. I was placed on high doses of steroids to prevent certain complications. Much to my dismay, I gained over 100lbs which they told me would happen with the steroids. What they didn't tell me was that after being taken off of them I would struggle to lose the weight and could possibly maintain the same appetite. After trying everything, my Oncologist felt it was best to seek a weight loss surgical solution. After visiting with a doctor in New Jersey I decided the Lap Band would be the best alternative for me. I had my surgery September 9, 2011. A few days after my surgery, my husband received orders to California. My surgeon decided he would not do anything more than the surgical follow-ups. No fill for me and no Fluid was placed in the band at surgery. Fast forward to December 8, 2011. Finally settled in Cali and found a new doctor here who performed my first fill. So far I am handling it well. I am down a pound this week and am still struggling with the sugar cravings (mostly because I am sad I am so far from home)...but I am going to start therapy and nutrition again to help with that! So I can't wait to share my journey along the way!

I agree with everyone here. I didn't want everyone knowing my business so I have only told a selected circle of friends and family making sure not to post anything to Facebook as well. Everyone who I have told has given positive support so I think I picked the right people to share with.
