    First time

I wanted to have WLS for weight loss. But I was told that because of my severe GERD that the sleeve was a bad choice. After doing a lot of reading on the net and forums I would have to agree. Most of what I have read reflects that most people who have the sleeve end up with GERD even without having it before surgery. So, with the reading and my surgeons advise, I will be having gastric bypass on 3/21.

    Milestones!

I have my pre-op procedures of upper GI and chest X-ray on Tuesday morning and my pre-op primary care physician appointment for clearance on Tuesday afternoon. I’m getting closer! After I had finished my nutritional class requirements at the first of January I thought surgery was imminent as we were told in the doctor talk that we were about a month away. But as I’ve read on here, enjoy the journey. Don’t rush. Be patient. Be gentle. I haven’t been very patient which is very evident by how little I chewed my food! I’ve been working on that. I’m turning 60 this week! I am excited that this milestone and my wls are close together. I feel ready for some good changes. My bmi is 44. I think at my highest weight it was 46. I feel so roly-poly. I want to kick my type 2 diabetes to the curb. I want to be able to be more active without the constant pain in my arthritic knees and ankles. I want to keep up with my two little granddaughters. I want to fit into seats! I am very glad to find this app/support group. My doc said that they had one on Facebook but I’ve given up that so I was glad to find this better alternative.

It is water weight, take 8oz of luke warm water, cut a fresh lemon into 8 wedges and squeeze one into the water. It works as a natural diuretic and will help push the water you retained. I retain water like the plague. I have easily gained 10 lbs from morning to night in just water and can wake up 10 lbs lighter the next day. The lemon water works like a pro-move for me and everyone I have ever told about it. Good luck, my pre-op diet starts in a few days and I know I will need all the luck I can get!

Taking my own advice - Hold myself accountable. Surgery 10/2020, HW somewhere in the 280's. Low weight 165 ... Current weight 175.... Why? Here's why... Last day tracked January 19th Last regular/daily tracking November 2021 Last day registered weighing - January (I still do weigh almost daily though) Eating/drinking (including alcohol) whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted - "Justified" it by telling myself "It's ok, I can't eat that much of whatever... and I'm drinking low calorie alcohol. All of this equals close to 10lb overall gain in a fairly short period of time. Failing to address it now will simply put me back where I started. If you've been at all successful in this journey, you know what works and what doesn't - Don't lie to yourself and pretend everything is fine and end up with a 20lb gain - Mentally 5 was my threshold and we see how that worked out. For me at least, I don't want to feel ashamed that I worked so hard only to fail in the long run. Today, back on track, I have no doubt that I will fall off the wagon again, but hey... it's a marathon, not a sprint. I WILL track food and drink - even if it's not something on my plan. I WON'T lie to myself. I'll set realistic/attainable goals. I WON'T do anything drastic (for me) like liquids only for x number of days - It isn't sustainable and results with me doing stupid things.

As one wise anesthesia doc told me, if you're going to have a reaction or complication, the hospital is the best place for it to happen. They keep such close watch on every little thing so they can take action at the first hint of something wrong. During surgery you have anesthesia, the surgeon, the surgeon's assistant, and nurses all dedicated to keeping you safe. Sent from my Z6201V using BariatricPal mobile app

    Anyone in MINNESOTA?

Thursday was my last appointment. Now I’m waiting for pre-approval from my insurance company. I am SO NERVOUS. The waiting is making me crazy! I tossed and turned all night.

When you are in the PURÉED stage, do you put meat in a blender? I don’t know if I can do that. I would rather skip meat while in that stage.
