    I have thought about all the milestones (negative) that I hit before finally turning to surgery. These were NOT tipping points for me: -needing seat belt extender on flight -struggling to tie my sneakers -Winded walking to my office or up the stairs -prediabetes diagnosis And so many years of dieting struggles The tipping point was -getting an A1C test of 6.9 and a Diabetes diagnosis. - getting prescribed diabetes, cholesterol, and blood pressure medications. -And Not being able to go on bike rides with my daughter I felt so hopeless until I finally followed my cardiologists suggestion to attend an informational session for bariatric surgery. After another 4 months of considering all the risks (real and perceived) with taking this step, I could not imagine any other way that I would be able to lose the amount of weight that I needed to get healthy again. Just over 3 months later and 54 lbs down, I am only sorry I was so resistant to the idea of surgery to help lose weight. I feel more than hopeful again. I have a long way still to go, but it feels doable now. And I already feel so much success to be able to move more comfortably and no longer need the medication prescribed just 8 months ago! And I am getting my bike tuned so I can go biking with my daughter on the nearby bike path that I have avoided riding for over 5 years!!

    On to the losers bench

    Got home from the hospital this afternoon - stayed 2 days. Not gonna lie, still feel pretty rough. Surgery apparently went fine, did the bypass and fixed a hernia. The stay in the hospital wasn't great. My IV infiltrated twice so my right arm is blown up like a balloon. I'm up 12 pounds from all the fluid in me. Sporting my stylish compression stockings for the next 2 weeks. Looking forward to getting through Sunday when I can finally have some soup. Still no regrets.     I couldn't eat for my first two weeks after surgery. I lived on clear protein drinks (not shakes). They were good because 1) I could swallow them and keep them down, 2) they kept me hydrated and 3) they gave me protein as well. It was week 3 when I started eating again (things like yogurt, pudding, etc.)

    A couple of questions

    1) Hair loss: my hair stated growing back around 6-7 months (which was co-incidentally at around the end of my weight loss phase...not sure if this was related). I'm 2.5+ years out now, and its all back and the pretty much the same length as all my regular-shoulder length hair. I also like to think it's actually thicker, fuller than pre-op, but that may just be wishful thinking. I did not take/do anything out of the ordinary to address it (other than chop it all off to a pixie cut around 3 months post-op 2) Vitamin Continuation: I stopped taking my vitamins around the 1 year mark. I've had 3 labs done since then and they have all come back satisfactorily (p.s. I'm was sleeved) 3) Vitamin Regimen: When I was taking them, I was doing: Wake up: Pre-natal multi + calcium + Vit D Mid afternoon: calcium + Vit D Late evening: calcium + Vit D I was on B12 just for the 1st month post op, but was taken off it because apparently I overproduce it already. 4) Meal Spacing of same size: In the first year, I didn't really have regular "meals" I just ate snack-sized "meals" a few times a day...probably 3-4 hours in between at minimum...and not really at any set time. Now I can eat alot more at one sitting (maybe 1 to 1.5 cups in volume in one sitting) and depending on what it is, this will keep me satisfied for 3-4 hours again....depending on what it is. Dense protein keeps me fuller longer vs salads. Good Luck! ❤️ p.s. im female, 49yrs, 5’2”, 115lbs

    I would contact your team. I couldn’t handle the sweet shakes after surgery, so for the first 2 weeks my dietician gave me the okay to focus on staying hydrated. There are also protein waters available like protein2o and Gatorade makes one now.

    Bothered By Heat

    I've actually been one to sweat no matter the time of year. Even when I was younger and thinner I was always a sweating (face/head mostly). I'm also one you would NEVER catch wearing a winter coat. I think the last time I wore one was about 25 years ago as a long sweater is the most I'll do. LOL I was hoping that surgery would take care of that for me. Nothing worse than just walking normal with no real effort and then being the only one around with their face soaked and flushed. I HATE IT! Constantly being asked, "Are you ok?" Bleh Anyway, since surgery and losing what I've lost so far (34.9 since surgery but 53.4 total since March), I've noticed I'm not really sweating in the kitchen as much as I used to or when doing housework. I've taken a few long distance walks outside in the heat and have NOT been overwhelmed like I used to be. No huffing and puffing and sweating. Usually I was the only one in the house who was still hot even though the air is on 67 but now at times I find myself being cold and putting the air up higher. I'm still early in the game so we'll see if this is long lasting. I hope it is!! As for being in the the heat, the stomach and water.........I've noticed a few times if I do not eat, or have eaten hours prior to going outside to do yard work or even to just lay out or swim, I start feeling sick to my stomach. But now I try to at least eat a little something before going in the heat and I'll also drink something like Gatorade when in the heat instead of just plain water. I find that that helps a lot!

    What was your tipping point?

    same here I would gain 20 every year! and i was also 300 when I decided that was the tipping point. like wow whats next 320 and I was 317 when I was put on my pre weight loss surgery. I got to 303. april 1st 2021 surgery now 245.

    Just So Proud

    Hello all, I just need a spot to share my happiness since I don’t talk a lot about wls with many of people (it’s not a secret, I just haven’t made it a central point of my personality!) I’m about 3 months (3 months 1 week) post op for sleeve, about to go in for my 3 month checkup, and I’ve officially lost 60 pounds, which is also half way to my goal 🥰 It was tough getting started in the beginning, and I struggled to know how to eat had how much to eat properly. I’ve even had some setbacks gaining a pound or 2 here or there. But I set this goal for myself and I met it - I’m so happy. I am forever grateful for this journey, this opportunity, and this community along the way! Good luck to everyone and enjoy your day!

    Dilated Sleeve

    Acid reflux/ heartburn. I choke on acid at night. I’ve been on a PPI for years. If I forget a dose I wake up choking on acid. My endoscopy shows erosion grade B esophagitis but the biopsies show no information (how I have no clue!) and my upper GI shows a dilated sleeve. The frustrating thing is the radiologist put I have “normal appearing stomach” because my sleeve is stretched to a normal stomach size but it’s NOT normal for someone with a sleeve. So my surgeon is fighting for the radiologist to amend his reading of the scans. It’s very clear it’s stretched big time.

    It's been a great conversation, but the OP hasn't been back on BP since early May. OP as far as I am concerned was flamebaiting. It's been great that they didn't get the response they were expecting but instead opposing views with respectful discussion. Well done all of us!
