    Breaking the stall

    As of last Tuesday, I was in a 2 week stall. Even knowing it was normal and inevitable, it felt terrible. I let myself feel down for a day and then I increased my protein intake and started resistance band training (I was exactly 8 weeks out). I also incorporated more potassium rich food to combat sodium bloat. Today I went in for my 2 month follow up and I’m down 12 pounds from last Tuesday, 32 since surgery, and 45 from my starting weight. I’m sure the stall would’ve broken on it’s own but I feel good about the adjustments and I’m enjoying short resistance workouts. Hoping anyone else in a stall right now feels hopeful after reading this!

    Watching TV makes me hungry!

    I don't normally watch TV with commercials because I only have Netflix and Hulu at home, but I was at a hotel recently and I flipped on the TV to a cooking show and I realized the cooking wasn't making me hungry but the commercials were. It was all for junk food but the way they film the junk food is so obscene!

    Follow up to my restaurant post

    The thing is it sounds like you basically made up your own menu. If you have to say no to 4 different things, change something, and add something else...that's a lot. I've also been a waitress before and if someone asked me to remove the free water I would also probably immediately flag them as a "difficult" table that wasn't going to tip me. I've eaten at a lot of restaurants since my surgery and haven't had an issue. Red Robin probably isn't the kind of place to go though. It's easiest to go to a health focused kind of restaurant first where all you have to do is find some lean protein on the menu.

    When/How to buy new clothes

    I suggest getting a couple belts and then when you're choosing new things, get things that either have a belt or an elastic waist that can be cinched in. Otherwise a dress with smocking on the top can stretch a lot.

    Follow up to my restaurant post

    On the topic of waiters... I just spent a week in Naples, FL on vacation. At one restaurant (upscale, indeed), the waitress - who was amazing, btw - told us she pulls "a couple thousand" a week. Didn't mention what a "couple" means.... At a different restaurant (lunch-type, less posh), the waiter told us he's on track to make six figures this year. Both in their early twenties. We asked about cost of living and both mentioned renting 2bd apartments for $1,400-$1600 a month, split with roommates. If I were young and hungry, I'd chase the money and move around where things are happening.

    I was actually prepared to make spontaneous plans to see my high school buddies on the 40 year anniversary of our graduation! I was ready to book the plane ticket and go, when they ended up re-scheduling due to other's conflicts. 80 pounds ago, I wouldn't have even considered going...even with 3 months to "lose some weight"! Now, I'm like "Tell me when and where, and I'll be there!" It felt great!!

    What's your best post op advice?

    Gosh, all of the above advice is amazing and I agree with it! I will add: -Make a decision on who you will tell about the surgery. It’s your private health information and you are under no obligation to tell anyone, unless you want to. -Have a plan for how to react to people who comment on weight loss. The first time someone said I looked wonderful (while giving me a once over), it took me by surprise. (And comments are another discussion…everyone feels differently being noticed.) -Prepare for eating differently around others (colleagues, family/friends). Will you bring your own food if there is a lunch provided at work? Will you change what you cook for family holidays? -Get your household on board with reducing treats in the house. If they won’t, ask them to keep treats in places that you don’t see easily. (as someone else wrote, you may mourn some of the foods that you should no longer eat… Sometimes it’s best not to be reminded of them) -If you do the Family cooking, start preparing recipes that are healthy for the sleeve (for example, High protein and no added sugar). At least with my family, if they want something else, they have to cook it themselves. 😀

    I do not regret having the surgery at all. I'm 10 months post op and o feel better than I've felt in years. I was 100lbs overweight and I've lost 85 of that so far. Doing without cokes didn't affect me any but I do eat red meat. Sent from my SM-G970U using BariatricPal mobile app
