    OOTD

Sigh. Sometimes it takes me a while to accept certain things! LOL. I got it in my head a while back that I HAD to have one when I watched an episode of Project Runway and saw one of the judges (or maybe it was one of the models?) wearing one and thought it was the coolest thing ever. Granted, she was probably 6 feet tall, so she could probably wear a paper bag and still look like the coolest thing ever. Double Sigh.

    Regaining weight, help!!

I'm almost 2 years post surgery and never hit my goal weight. I didn't have that much to lose, weight before surgery - 190, 5"4 but I only got down to 140. Covid has hit, I'm a bit blue and I'm up 15 pounds. I'm disgusted with myself. I'm going back to protein shakes in morning, any suggestions? I've continued to take bariatric multivitamins, do I need to continue for the rest of my life? What kind of protein do you eat on a daily basis? I can only eat so much chicken and eggs. I need some variety. I have no energy and probably down due to the pandemic. What are you doing to stay motivated? Thanks!

    Strange smell and taste

I had the sleeve not the bypass and I haven't experienced that. However, my cousin had the bypass within a few days of mine and he also tells me that things taste different (and not in a good way). I don't have any insight into what causes that but you're not alone.

Surgery is just one part. You have to be willing to put in the work and effort to change a lifetime of bad habits. For the first month or two you will probably struggle to meet goals set by your doctor or dietician to get your protein and water goals. But, that should be your number one task as it will give you a good foundation to build healthy habits. Exercise is also a big part. Do what you can an work at doing more. If you realize that you get out of this what you put into it, you will be on the right path. Change is a scary thing, but it can also lead to great things.

My biggest fear is it won't work...

I was afraid my surgery would not be effective for me. But it turned out that it worked for me just like it did for others! Almost 2 years and 120 pounds lost later, I am now moving into maintenance and planning for how I will avoid significant regain. It'll work if you work it - by that I mean, surgery makes it easier to lose weight but you do have to build good habits as well.

Gerd w/ Sleeve VS. Dumping w/ Bypass

Going with both responses above with an emphatic agree! I was scared beyond belief with any of the surgeries but never even considered sleeve with my surgeon as soon as he said it had even a little chance of gerd worsening. I was stage 3 and having my esophagus widened every year with swallowing problems-with a real fear of Barret's Syndrome for real. I had tight fists of air in my chest that didn't hurt but were so scary and disturbing with a lot of breathing problems. My surgery had some complications but minor in the long run. I am 15 weeks out now and down 100 lbs as of today! Not gonna lie-my GERD is not completely gone but my Dr said with the severity I was at, it can take a good 6 months for it to be so much better. He still has me taking meds for that but it is much better and more so day by day. Dumping syndrome is not fun but I also feel it's a benefit to learning how to eat differently for long term weight loss and control. I really feel like a new person and am ok with what I need to do and the after-effects of the bypass. It's not an easy recovery but not as bad as I thought it would be either; I still have some bruising as the complications made it more difficult the first month. Even with that, I am, without even a tiny shred of doubt. so happy I went with the bypass. Yeah, I wouldn't want to just 'gamble' with surgeries as a 'just in case'. Especially with GERD-it's a very serious thing to have.

    New issues two years out

It might be worth a scope to check that you don't have an ulcer.

    Charcuterie board

I love them.... so many options. I go to the meat counter and have them thinly sliced salami, pepperoni, prosciutto, I always add some cheeses ... blue cheese, brie, smoked gouda, throw in some cut strawberries, ripe cantaloupe, some olives, peppered mustard spread.... pepper jelly... and some thin crackers and some nuts..... Yummmmm
