    Day 2 post op.

That was a rough time. The surgery went text book according to the surgeon but I woke up with the worst nausea. I was vomiting (air) for about 6 hours post op. They gave me several types of meds to help but told me the more I rest the better I'll feel. They kept me on medication for nausea and pain until about 10-11 the next day. Then I was able to get up and walk around. Did laps and then would fall back asleep. I'm so much better feeling today. Anyone who tries to say this is the "easy" way has lost their minds. [emoji36] definitely harder than I expected. Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app

    February Surgery

Hello 5th Buddies. I had my bypass on the 5th and things have been so surprisingly great. Got discharged immediately the next morning. Getting in the Water and Protein. Doing homemade broths and tolerating them. I have my first play op appointment tomorrow. Not even in pain which I am surprised by that. I have more knee pains than surgery pains from walking lol. Stay pumped everyone. The honeymoon is in full effect and let’s make the most out of it. I am sure they’re tougher days ahead but enjoy the ride.

    SLEEVE HELP regarding hunger hormones

I guess that you can say that i have relatively normal hunger at close to eight years out - I get hungry near meal times (getting there now, about an hour away from dinner and that pot roast in the kitchen is smelling awfully good!) and if I get busy and skip a meal a will feel hungry for a while until I get distracted by something else and what do you know it's way past lunchtime. Loss rate can be quite variable, but you have a lot going for you being male and young-ish (in your 30's if I remember other posts?) which tend to help things. With the sleeve, I needed to lose about 100lb, having lost 50 or so a few years before and kept that off, and I was starting to ramp up my intake at six months to slow things down and ease off that last 10 lb. And I wasn't being all that aggressive on trying to lose fast in preference to losing sustainably; there was another guy online around that time with similar stats to mine and he was done in about four months by keeping his calories lower (similar 100lb loss with the sleeve) so it is quite possible. What I would look for as an indication of your loss rate would be your history - how easily have you lost in prior attempts - and that can be a good gauge. Good luck with it, whichever way you go....

    Hair Loss

yes - I've heard biotin can stimulate facial hair growth. Unfortunately, I've also heard it's not as effective for the hair on your head! I don't think anything really helps. If you're going to lose hair, you will, if not, you won't. I lost very little hair. I started noticing extra strands in my comb when I was about 5-6 months out. This went on for maybe 3 or 4 months. If it weren't for the strands in the comb, I never would have noticed. And neither did anyone else. Even if you lose some hair, it's temporary - and for most people, you're the only one who notices. In the end, it's a small price to pay.

You can definitely do keto, but it might not be especially high fat for a while--most bariatric nutritionists seem to favor a low-fat, low-carb diet for new patients. And very few people get through the first few weeks without something artificial. (I relied on sugar-free jello, sugar-free popsicles, and SO MANY PROTEIN SHAKES.) If you're really dedicated, though, you could probably minimize most of that. For instance, Eggface suggests "double milk" (1 cup Milk mixed with 1/3 cup Nonfat Dry Milk Powder = 16 grams of protein per 8 oz. serving) as one option. Most plans won't force you to eat beans or fruit or high-carb veggies, though; the focus is very much on protein sources, mostly animal-based ones. If you're worried about dumping from high-fat keto, you might consider discussing the option of the sleeve instead of the bypass with your surgical team. (There are people with sleeves who experience dumping, but it's pretty rare.) But like Matt said, not everyone who goes bypass has a dumping problem from fat, either.
