Last Christmas, I was one week post op. Sore hips, knees. Versus now. Running, diving, cycling and loving a whole new life, 100lbs lighter. A smooth run all year, rigid adherence to my programme for the first 9 months, more relaxed in maintenance mode but hold myself in a 133-137 lb range with good diet (lowish protein - except today because it is Christmas so I am relaxed about it!) and 80g protein a day (ham and turkey are ON my plan today!) and exercise. Love love love this new life.

I tried on this sweatshirt that was uncomfortably snug last Christmas. My, how times have changed. It goes to Goodwill next week!

Last Christmas I was. trying desperately to finish up prerequirements for bariatric surgery at Facility #1, only had my sleep apnea one to go. When I had gotten to my cardiologist, because of the strong family trait toward cardiovascular problems I had a more involved assesment done than average. And I found the one cardiac anomaly I possessed was not enough to bar me from surgery. I was pleased enough with her care of me that I am retaining her as my permanent cardiologist , although I cut ties with the others affiliated with that hospital system. So the majority of my specialists are either here in Mount Vernon or at Ohio State University in Columbus. I had just joined Bariatric Pal, although I was a still-apprehensive newbee, everybody here was kind and answered my questions. And I was heavier by nearly a hundred pounds then but had started trying to lose. And I was going to my appointments, dotting I and crossing it's as I went, trying my best to make them like me, I still was trying to be perfect. Christmas 2018, I finally received my RnY in September, although my recovery has been and still is bumpy, I will never regret something I still regard as a Wonderful Miracle in my life, I had. sought it for over 3 years, fought an uphill battle against age discrimination from many angles, and now I have a PICC LINE in my upper left arm, receiving TPN 14 HOURS EVERY night, could have never forecast that twist, but I believe it to be helping my ulcers to heal, when the inner swelling of my pouch subsides perhaps the stricture will better also. So at least into January I will retain this added bit but I remain very hopeful that Drs Needleman and Noria are correct, I am repairable and will be okay when all said and done.

Ok so I know a lot of you don't weigh yourselves more then once a week. I usually weight myself about 3 times a week. I'm still trying to wrap my head around the fact that I am actually losing weight ☺️ So I weighed myself on Friday I weighed the same as I had 2 days before 201... Today I got on the scale just knowing I must of gained after having stuff I should not of had at a party last night. Hey it is the season to celebrate. To my astonishment the scale read 197 whoooohooooo. I have not seen anything under 200 in years. I did a happy dance in the bathroom. I am so happy I took this journey. I'm getting my life back.

    Choices of liquids

Yup I was thinking I will make my own ! I also got cream of chicken soup , it only has 9 carbs and 1 sugar per serving so that may be better overall .

I had a DS last week with Dr Wilhelmy as well. So far, so good. It's a real hospital, but it is not a U.S. Hospital. Dr Wilhelmy doesn't have a bad accent, but I think he may have a limited vocabulary in English (Dr. Campos acted as a translator during the pre-Surgery consult, though Dr Wilhelmy came by himself for the daily checkups post-op). No serious complications so far.

    Any Finnish people here?

Oh hey, that's pretty neat! I know there's some different areas in the US with lots of Swedish and Finnish peoples, though to be honest, I'm not sure where specifically. But yeah, a lot of people here are bi or trilingual, which is nuts! I'm struggling to speak Finnish myself, since it's one of the hardest languages in the world. But I'll get there (someday.) Either way, happy holidays to you and everyone else! ❤️

    Preop not losing

Happy Holidays everyone. Just wanted you all to know I did end up losing 7 pounds after 14 days of hellish torture LOL. My doctor said my liver shrank a little but not a lot. He said it will continue to shrink as I lose weight. I was on 19 medications and he said that can sometimes have an effect on the shrinking... so now we know. Surgery went well and other than feeling like I did 100 situps I wouldn't really know I had surgery. No real after effects. I threw up once in the hospital when I took too many of my 19 meds at once but other than that no other issues. I'm back to drinking normally with no problem. Still no food yet, I have 8 more days to go to get to puree but I get milk and yogurt on Wed and I'm really looking forward to it. I think it will settle okay but will do small amounts at first. Thanks, everyone for being so nice and supportive! Love this group!

    The Case for More Water

I still go back to this one for drinking. I can't tell you how much it's helped me from a satiety standpoint. Pouch Rules For Dummies--which I can't find an active link to now. It's for mature pouches and sleeves, and shouldn't be used in the first 6 months. But in a nutshell: Drink about 6-8oz of water as quickly as possible. The take small sips to keep full to the point that you don't want to swallow any more. You do this about 15 minutes before a meal. Then drink nothing more until after you eat. Then you wait a minimum of 45 minutes to 2 hours until you drink again. At that point, you sip, sip, sip on water to fully hydrate your tool. It only works if you've been hydrating all along. So I roughly drink 1 bottle of water between 2hours after a meal and up to the 15 minutes before a meal. Then I drink another 1/2 bottle+ a little more to water load. You can also use the water loading technique once you are healed fully (around 6 months) any time you're hungry or munchy. It will fill you up for about 15-30 minutes (or at least it does me). By doing this you are getting all your water in, and you keeping yourself from being snakky. I can't tell you how many times I thought I was hungry, when I was actually thirsty. I am able to drink between 4-6 bottles of water a day (16.9floz).
