I ate like a normal person yesterday!!! I was at an all-day training where they provided breakfast and lunch. Since I didn't know what they would be serving, I packed my little cooler with a protein bar, yogurt and a fruit cup. I didn't need it, woohoo! One of the breakfast options was a yogurt parfait and at the lunch buffet they had (in addition to a bunch of stuff I couldn't eat) salmon patties, a squash medley, and orzo. They had fruit cups for the afternoon snack! I was so excited to eat what other people ate! I admit, I did eat some sweets, too. But overall, what a good day!

So, I work as nursing staff at a psychiatric hospital and our crew is very tight-knit. We have potlucks in our nurses’ station for every reason. Birthday? Potluck. Back from vacation? Potluck. Trying patient going back to jail? Potluck. It’s a Saturday? Donuts, chips, and other goodies. Today, I came into work and there was a box of donuts from our psychiatrist because he wanted to show his appreciation. Right now, there’s a bag of Doritos and gummy bears right in front of me as I begrudgingly eat my salad. I’ve managed to do pretty well so far and I haven’t given in to temptation, but man, that apple fritter was calling my name. What are your favorite snacks to keep on hand in this type of situation? I have a fridge at work and my own locker. I am just starting my 6 month medically supervised weight loss.

    Protein Shakes

A lot of people love Premier protein shakes. I did until post op I couldn’t tolerate them; made me have diarrhea. Now I stick strictly to premier protein clear drinks & Genepro odorless, tasteless powder. I mix half a scoop Genepro into my premier protein with a crystal light and drink everyday. So much easier and cheaper than buying a multitude of other products. I still have powder I purchased pre op that I haven’t opened & eventually I may play around with them as drink them or give them away so moral of the story is try some now, see what ya like but don’t go overboard with buying lots of drinks because you may have different taste buds post op or you may not be able to tolerate it. Vitamin Shoppe is good about giving samples & GNC will go e you store credit for opened products you don’t like or full refund on stuff you haven’t opened

I'm in a deep funk. Instead of helping others, I've turned into a wacko rambler. Off-topic, off period. It's time for me to take a break from this place.

Ugh that is tough. I work in the hospital and there is always cake, doughnuts, and candy around. This week someone brought in packages of full size Cinnabon for heavens sakes! I always keep Greek yogurt, cottage cheese...if you can find Muuna it’s yummy...cheese sticks, and such for snacks. Granted I am post op and it is much easier to not stray now. The more you stay away from the sugar though, the less you will crave it!

    Pizza!

So I made pizza for dinner and sadly couldn’t eat much (yay!). It is a turkey fest! 1 slice of turkey bacon, 6 slices of turkey pepperoni and 1.5 ounces of ground turkey. 1.5 ounces of cheese, 2 tablespoons of sauce, few mushrooms on a cauliflower crust. 4-5 servings. [emoji3] Protein goals met! Yep!

    Bone Broth and Collagen Protein

Actually, that's about the best thing that can be said about it. Collagen/gellatin is about the most common protein there is, it's an incomplete protein that has a poor amino acid profile. Basically all of the amino acids that are at a surplus in your body already. The only difference between the expensive collagen protein powders and Jell-O (aside from flavors) is that the proteins have been processed further to break them down into smaller particles. Oh, and collagen won't gel. Nutritionally speaking, same thing. If you look on a box of Jell-O, it states that the FDA does not consider it a significant source of protein because of the low quality of the protein. However, since collagen is being sold as a supplement, it does not get regulated by the FDA. I know, I was upset too after buy turmeric bone broth powder to use in cooking. That stuff wasn't cheap! Tasted good though. Be aware that all of these benefits are so new they are mostly marketing speak.
