    NSV - in the bathtub

A non-scale victory (sort of) I am a ‘bath’ girl. Pretty much every evening, for an hour, I soak in a tub of hot water and sometes read or do emails or come here to you all, my buddies. I have a gas califont that auto sets - so I just push the ‘bath fill’ button and it gives me 110 litres at 45 degrees - and then the water stops running. Now I noticed two or three weeks ago, it doesn’t feel as luxurious and realised the water isn’t covering my chest and keeping All of me toasty warm. Weightloss! My bum doesn’t press up against the sides of the bath any more - in fact I can fit my arms between my hips and the bath. So I have upped my bath quantity - by 30 litres. I figure 30kg (65lbs) is about 30 litres. Perfect...

    New here

Hi, my name is Kenny, new guy on the block I guess, and I’m in the early stages of preparing for surgery. My insurance only covers a couple hospitals so I am commuting from South Carolina to Pennsylvania. I have my first appointment June 14th and they tell me I will be going thru 6 months of tests and preparations in one day, and if all is good, I will be given a tentative date for surgery. I’m feeling very nervous, kind of excited, different feelings everyday lol. I know I am ready to make a change, that’s also why I signed up on here. Support, communication, and knowledge are a big part of it. Anyway, just wanted to introduce myself, couldn’t find a specific place on the forums to do that so I figured I would start here seeing as I know I will have a lot of questions.

BMI under 35 on Surgery Date

I believe they did you RA as one of my co-morbidities. I also have diabetes type 2 and sleep apnea and NAFLD. I was approved in a day once the doc's office submitted all the paper work! Good luck! I can't wait to be healthy again!

Thanks everyone for your kind words. I am pretty well set on having the bypass surgery. My sister did it several years ago and has made a total life transformation. Have been reading up on both the bypass and the sleeve surgeries, and just feel that the bypass is more of what I’m looking for.

    Sleeved May 16th

I was sleeved on May 16th as well. I have had 0 nausea thank the lord. That was one of my biggest fears along with constipation. They gave me a nausea shot in pre op before surgery and I told the anathesialogist about my fear to, so maybe that's why. I also found out that the pain medications they give us will cause both of these. Other than a terrible headache I had in the hospital from the morphine and the gas pains I feel really good. Hang in there we only have good things to come. Congratulations on your journey to a new you!

    5 weeks post op

I'm 5 weeks post op and Feeling great so far! I'm down 22 lbs since surgery and total 39lbs since the start of my pre op diet. I went from 232 to currently 193! I'm learning which foods i can eat and thing i can no longer tolerate or no longer like. I drink mostly water and milk i haven't found any drinks that i really like. All the sugar free drinks don't sit well since surgery. How are you other April sleevers doing?

    5 weeks post op

I’m 5 weeks post op too. I feel pretty good except I get a little fatigued faster than before surgery. I’m 20lbs down since surgery. 32lbs since my pre-op diet. Started at 192 and currently 160. I do get scared that I’m stretching out my pouch. It seems I always eat until I have discomfort in my stomach. Trying to learn to eat slower

BMI under 35 on Surgery Date

I'm the same! I had my orientation at Kaiser a little over 2 weeks ago, where they told us to start on the pre-op diet. I had a BMI of 35 -- I'm 5'4" with a SW of 215. I've already lost 12 pounds, which drops me down to a BMI of 34. I have my first meeting with the surgeon tomorrow... I'm hoping to schedule surgery for July. If I keep up the weigh loss, I have to imagine I'll be at least at a 33 by then. Thankfully, I'm told that Kaiser goes by the orientation weight, so it shouldn't matter. If anything, I want my body to be as healthy as possible by the time I have surgery in order to reduce complications. But I'll also see what the surgeon says tomorrow when I meet him!

Some of my surgery incisions are infected (I was told I was at increased risk for infection since I'm diabetic). I got to the doctor in the early stages so its nothing major, but I'm waiting on the cultures to find out which antibiotic is most appropriate to treat the infection. I should hear from the doc's office tomorrow. In the meantime, I have no desire to eat (surgery was two weeks ago) and find myself preferring to drink my protein. Is that normal?
