    Day 8

Pain can be a sign something is wrong. I hope you find out what the problem is in your follow-up meeting (or sooner). You might refer to your hospital discharge directions. Mine indicated the time to contact your physician for pain was as follow: Uncontrolled or increased abdomen pain. Shortness of breath or calf pain (possible signs of blood clot). New onset of upper back or left shoulder pain. Chest pain, rapid heartbeat and or dizziness. Changes in your incision - new pain, swelling, redness, cloudy drainage.

Very excited this morning. Good things have been coming my way all week. I finally got over my stall (which ended up being dehydration) and have entered "onederland". I have gone from a 40J to a 36H (start weight at 256). And to wrap it up even more nicely, my husband had an very successful surgery for his battle with cancer this Friday. Very excited and happy and a million other things.

What's in your over night bag ?

My doc actually gave us a list! I have slippers to walk around in so you don't have to bend down to put them on, a "coughing" pillow or stuffed animal to hold to your tummy to prevent pain, bathrobe for walking around in, toothbrush and toohpaste, shampoo, hairbrush, deodorant, phone, charger, meds, loose fitting clothing, and LIP BALM they say your lips will be very dry. Also for the checklist they added not to wear makeup, contacts, nailpolish, or perfume on the day of the surgery, make sure your bills are paid and your house clean and there is a phone by your bed at home and someone to look in on you. Good luck everyone

    Pre op liquid diet

My doc is only making me do a 10 day liquid diet, and he says it's becuase of the diet we are restricted to. We are restricted to only 3 shake choices for the liver shrink- bariatric fusion- bipro or wegmans. Bipro or wegmans brand you have to add 5g of fiber too, and bipro is perfect for people like me who can't do aspartame or sucralose. We are allowed as much sugar fee jello, fat free broth, and sugar free drinks as we want, but are limited to one cup of caffeine a day, and none the day before surgery. We are also only allowed one 1/2 cup of nonstarchy veggies daily, so I will crunch on some carrots or toss them in broth to make soup. Sorry for the long post, just trying to help.

    Lower BMI

I just had my surgery on Aug 21, 2017. When I went in to see the doctor the beginning of July, I was 31.8 BMI, 174lbs, 5'1". My doctor only put me on a 3-day pre-op diet, and on surgery day I was 31.1 BMI, 170. It has now been 35 days, and I am down 17lbs. I am so glad I did this surgery. I was afraid the doctor would tell me no when I first went in, but he was completely understanding and agreed it was better for me to get it done now before I was 40 BMI. I should also add, I did not have any co-morbidities. He gave me other options like lap-band and the balloon, but after much research, I decided gastric sleeve was a better option because it is permanent. I didn't want a temporary fix, because I knew once I lost the weight, I would have a really good likelihood of gaining it back once these devices were removed. I had such an easy surgery and recovery. The only issue was the bloating from the CO2 gas they use to blow up your body cavity....and that was just discomfort...not horribly painful. Ask your doctor if he uses Exparel....that was what my doctor used in my surgical site and I really had zero pain.

    Let's talk protein shakes ?!

They are gross, the only one i can handle is the chocolate Premiere Protein in has 30 grams of protein. After drinking it for a week it taste like chocolate milk. I’m currently 3.5 months post op and still drink it every morning. You can do this!

18 days post op - no weight loss

Hello! I had by pass on the 5th, 18 days ago. I did 7 days post op of just liquids, 7 days purees and now I am on soft food. On the 4th I was 239 and after 1 week after I went down to 226. It was the 12th. Since then I didn't lose a single pound. It is a little depressing also because for me it's difficult to reach 1000 kcal a day as my surgeon told me to do.... I am pretty active and i walk every day: I don't feel like going to the gym doing cardio unless I hit those 1000 calories. Is this normal???

Atkins Lift protein drink . . . 20 g of protein per bottle, counts as water, not nearly as disgusting as protein shakes. I still like eggs, thank goodness. A lot of stuff I've tried I'm not crazy about--canned chicken pureed and made into a salad was disgusting to me. I'm okay with the ricotta bake, but can't eat a lot of it. Like yogurt or cottage cheese. Still early days here . . .
