  2. Dense protein - like 3 oz of meat - is DEFINITELY more filling, but so often I want something like yogurt or cottage cheese instead. Good foods, yes, but they slide right through you. I really need to try to eat dense proteins every day. It might not be such a struggle to maintain my weight if I did...
  3. YES. I'm always amazed at how many lbs my bowels can carry! Also, after WLS, I gain a little weight every time I have my period. Its like I spend 2 weeks to drop 5 bls. Then I gain 3-5lbs a week before my period...then I don't lose it til almost a week after. So that's about 2 weeks of every month that I'm struggling and discouraged. So end result is that I have to lose the 3-5 lbs of water from the monthly cycle and then 3-5lbs of my own honest weight loss. /hate

    One month post op RNY

most people seem to lose in the 15-25 lb range the first month (of course, you'll always find some who've lost more or less than that), so you're right on target!
  5. I am. It has been working for me. But, honestly, I'm only 7 months out and spent months 3-6 REALLY sick, so I think almost anything would have worked for me up to now. Here's a thread with some good tips.

    October 2018 Sleevers

My before and after 60 lbs down. My health is better and my legs don't hurt anymore when I walk. The weight is coming off slowly but its going. I went for my 6 month check and the doctor is happy with my results. He would like for me to drop another 20 lbs by August. I'm happy I got the procedure done.

    Recently sleeved

That’s really weird, I was on full liquid diet for 2 weeks post op and after that I was able to slowly introduce pureed or mashed food. I am just entering week 4 and can add solids now. When you say your finding it hard to eat what do you mean?

    FAILED SLEEVE

Hi! I am only 4 weeks post op but the number one thing that sticks with me that my surgeon said is that these surgeries are a TOOL not a solution. If you are picking up on bad eating habits, try and slowly turn yourself back to eating healthy. I’m not sure if you are walking or going to the gym but try and get back to those also, it should help you start dropping pounds again! Don’t give up you are not alone!!

    Regained after GS

I found if I was slipping I went on the pre-surgery and post-surgery diet for a month. You need to cleanse your system of carbs, sugars and the other junk. Then you buy only healthy food, and you learn to respect your body and only allow good food to enter. Another trick is to eat half and pour water over the rest. Don't take it home. Just a few facts.

CPAP & Aerophagia - Why was I never warned of this!

For those struggling with CPAP, or afraid of the aeorphagia as the weight drops off, you might look into an APAP machine. APAP doesn't just give a singular setting or pressure like traditional CPAP, but instead auto adjusts the pressure literally breath by breath throughout the night. It only ever delivers the pressure needed to maintain the airway at each minute. Your sleep doctor might be willing to give you a loaner or it could be rented short term. For myself, it is still possible that I could, as I lose weight, dip below my pressure ranges that are set by my Doctor on even on my APAP. However, I do feel better that at least if/when that happens it isn't still blowing air into my stomach at a full force setting for months on end. I could then have it adjusted to even lower ranges for the APAP, if needed. I dunno, just a thought. Oh the joys of OSA...😒

  18. i love this topic because it’s given me so many things i’ve read and think yes!!! i want it for this reason as well 😀 still working on a list of my own but there are so many wonderful reasons listed
  19. Up and down. I am 9 days post op at the moment. Yesterday at the recommendation of the dietician I tried a soft scrambled egg and it just stuck at the top of my stomach. I felt like crap. Back on liquids and yoghurt today. Also I have a really sore shoulder and neck - I think it is muscular as the gas would be gone from my system by now. On the good side - no more reflux! Yay for that. And the weight is coming off consistently. I’ve lost 2 kgs since the operation, and over 6 kgs since I started the pre-operation diet. I’m going to start cooking some of my own soups today - to have something tasty to eat.
  20. I have cigna and it only required 1 nutrition visit. I am also doing the sleep study. So, everybody is different with cigna and there own plan. Sent from my SM-G973U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Not telling anyone

I told my close family and friends. Basically anyone who would really notice a drastic weight loss in me. How I see it is that it is nobody’s business. I am very close with my family and wanted their support but if you feel like you don’t want anybody to know that is completely valid. Not everyone is going to understand why we turn to surgery to help us.

  23. there’s such a big range of experiences with them it seems ... so far i’ve seen mine once pre-op before i had a date, and i see her three times in the first two months after but then she said i can’t see her after that. i’d really like someone who could be involved longer term including now, so like the idea of the ones that give you that option. At the same time i’d probably not like it if i was told i had to 😃 thanks for sharing some of your experiences

    February 2019 weight loss buds

Bon voyage! Glad you're feeling better. I had my 3-mo post op yesterday and overall I am doing well. My NUT advised me to drink more water (especially now with the heat and humidity setting in) and to ensure I'm getting my protein in. She did not seem to be concerned about weaning me off the protein shakes (whew) but said if I'm only drinking one a day to make sure I take my calcium chew. I've been avoiding that because I know it can bulk up the system and I've finally gotten my constipation under control. 😮 Apparently with two shakes I was getting the right amount of calcium. THE GREAT news is that my labs came back and they are perfect. I see my endocrinologist on Friday for more labs but I've got a good feeling my HbA1c (formerly 7.8%) will be in the 6 percentile range. That would so great. Also great is my 47-lb loss since surgery on Feb. 13. I finally bought a few basic clothing items (skirt, few work blouses, capris) as I was trying to get away with wearing way-too-big clothes and it left me feeling very frumpy. Once I started wearing the right-sized clothes people at work really started noticing the weight loss (many awkward conversations around that topic!). I have gone from a 2X/18W to a size 14/16. Feels wonderful to be lighter on my feet and NOT having to shop in the Plus-Sized section. It was exhilarating, but funny, as I had NO idea what size to try on. I also cleaned out my big summer clothes from last year and off they will go to the Salvation Army. As Marie Kondo would say: They no longer spark joy! Foodwise: Tonight we went to a diner for dinner and I had one egg and about 1/3 cup of hash browns. So far, potatoes are my biggest indulgence. Other than a potato cheat here and there I'm essentially eating only talapia, chicken, cheese, hamburger, almonds, Kind Bars, olives, raspberries, strawberries, and protein shakes. I am woefully low on eating veggies. Need to get with the program there because potatoes do not count!
