    ❤ MAY 2019 CHALLENGE❤

I’m all groomed up. Went shopping, clothes sizing is so weird, I’m all over the map. I bought 2 pair of shorts from the same store in different sizes & colors. I planned on returning the pair that didn’t fit. They both fit, makes no sense but ok. They are chino shorts with a real waist, zipper etc, no elastic involved. Went to the gym this morning, it was more crowded than I expected for a holiday weekend. Going out tonight, followed by a long walk if it doesn’t rain. I hope everyone is having a chill weekend.

Anxiety Meds before, during and After

Yes I do get rebound and withdrawal symptoms- first I get kinda fuzzy feeling, then nauseous. If I go longer I get the “electric shocks” feels like zapping in my head- pretty scary but I’m not actually having a panic attack it’s like I’m too sick to have one? I don’t know if that makes sense. I was hoping my doc will tell me to come off the xr 4 mg and go to 4 mg throughout the day. I know my 4mg is only lasting 12 ish hours with xr so very rarely I’ll have an issue at night. But I’ve never been woken from sleep with an attack. I thought like you I probably wouldn’t take all 4 mg a day immediate release also thanks for the support with taking it because it works. Taking those meds for panic attacks is not something I like discussing with people- anyone on that med doesn’t like too I’ve only become ok with it recently. I have an apt with my psych before I have surgery so I can discuss options with her. She’s very good with me and my needs. Thank you you for sharing I’ll share some of those options with her too and see what she thinks. Thanks for sharing your experience
  4. My suggestion is not to buy a ton of anything because your tastes and tolerance to some foods may change after the surgery. Good luck!

    What vitamins to take?

I take multivitamin 2 a day that has iron and vitamin d, along with calcium citrate twice a day. Mine have to be spaced out at least 2 hours from each other. Sent from my Moto E (4) using BariatricPal mobile app
  7. It was easier to get in warm liquids (broth), a bit at a time. We picked up a little one cup hot plate (I think they are usually for keeping tea warm). It was really helpful.

    1 Month Post-Op Update

Look at how much you have lost in a minute month. Then think about how much more you could have lost without the carbs. Do you have anyone there to help you get through this? Believe me I know it's hard, but when you hit a stall like I did for a month your going to have to be able to push through alone or not. You can do this!!! PAIN

Call your doctor and get a more effective painkiller. I didn't feel any pain for the 3 days post up bc I took oxycodone as directed. Don't suffer if you don't have to.

  11. Of course you gain weight instantly while carb loading. Glycogen contains/binds lots of water.
  12. I only have 10 more #s to go to reach my goal weight. These are going to be the hardest ones yet.
  13. If you don't already have a water bottle with the ounces on it you might want to pick up one or order one. It really helped me reach my water goals. I got mine on Amazon https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07CQ2C8SB/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
  14. Healthy_life2 and Fluffy gave some great advice. They are very knowledgeable, and a treasure to this board. I’m only a month out, but the memories of the first couple of weeks are very fresh. It was rough. I felt like getting my liquids and some protein in was a full time job. Drinking is a lot easier now. By week 3 I could eat very soft cheese (like laughing cow), eggface’s ricotta bake (that recipe is LEGIT), high-protein low-carb yogurt, soft scrambled eggs, puréed salmon spread. Week 4, last week, I was able to add in some softly cooked brown meat chicken (I have a Sous vide, so it’s easy to keep it soft and not overcook it, I highly recommend that gadget) and softly cooked salmon. I could get in about 1/8 - 1/4 cup in. I have to go very slowly, like taking 20-30 minutes to eat it, and chew the daylights out of it. I’ve progressed to being able to try little bits of most types of meats. I’m still learning to listen to my body’s signals that it’s full, so I go by measurements. 1/4 cup of food per meal, 3 meals per day, and 1 protein shake for a snack (half in the afternoon, half in the evening/night). I can add bits of salsa, etc. for flavor, which keeps down the monotony. I’m still going to be chewing for a long long time, and may forever. It’s not a bad thing. I enjoy my meals a lot more. I can add in non-starchy veggies in at the 3 month mark, as long as I’m getting the protein in. The chewing a ton and not drinking water 1/2 hour before and 1/2 hour after a meal were some of the behaviors that I had to develop prior to surgery. My program was pretty rigorous, but I think it prepared me fairly well. You’ll get used to this new way of being. There are so many wonderful proteins and non starchy veggies out there. I’m still going to indulge in fruit here and there, but it will be a bite of fresh strawberry, or a blackberry off a vine or a huckleberry or two while I’m hiking. And I will enjoy the hell out of it.

    PAIN

I refused to take anything stronger than Tylenol with codine to ease the pain and now I’m regretting it. I cant sleep , sit, lay down or anything without pain on my right side. Going to the bathroom is a job just getting up and down. Did anyone have this type of pain and discomfort your first week ? I’m 3 days post op and getting in fluids is almost impossible. HELP why did I do this again.....

Worried I'm going about this all wrong - help?

I live a ways away from my surgeon, though not Mexico far by any means! As far as post-op surgical support -one thing I have done is figure out, God forbid, where I would go hospital wise if there is a true emergency issue that would keep me from making the long trip back to my surgeon's hospital. I picked a hospital that is close to me and also has a true bariatric program. While any hospital can deal with emergencies, I figure it is better to go where they would have someone familiar with the surgery and complications. Not likely to need it, but a good back up for a worst case scenario and a best plan B if I do. Just something to consider as a pre-game plan for you. Congratulations and good luck!

  22. No one is demonizing carbs. There is no such thing as NO carb diet. Low carb is instructed by many surgeons/dieticians. All plans are different. I am carb sensitive. I am a type one diabetic. My body does not process carbs or sugar correctly. I keep my carbs in the range where I lose/maintain my weight. I distance run. I carb load for seven days pre-race. It’s instant weight gain. I go back to weight loss mode to work it off.

    i hate cardio.

I hate it too.. so , so , so hate it...I would be right with you cleaning that bathroom to avoid it too.. I try to get outside and at least get it in while walking or hiking and seeing different scenery.. I can lift weights all day and I love to slap on higher weights after a young whipper snappers left a machine.. I HATE that I still have to do what I hate to do as an old broad who’s done WAY more things in life that I hated and I really don’t have any advice to make you enjoy it I only can say I feel ya!!

    regret not doing this sooner

When I think of the miserable vacations( chub rub rashes from hot temperatures) and not being able to ski in YEARS I wonder why I waited so long too! I’m 55 and spent too much time not going out side with my last child and he has developed a weight problem from my bad example.. however, I can make the most of today and I will not compare myself to anyone , I lose slowly because I’m peri menopausal and it just is what it is.. you had the surgery and you will get there .. trust the process and love yourself and be proud of yourself TODAY.
  25. That's alot of fruit. I'm almost 10 weeks out and still have trouble with my protein intake because I'm full so fast. 4 oz is hard for me to get down at once. I downloaded biartastic app. With that said how are you doing with your daily vitamins?? Sent from my Moto E (4) using BariatricPal mobile app

  27. I haven't had surgery yet so not dumping. I'm about a week away. I have PCOS. If I eat too many carbs, it will make me hungrier causing me to want to eat more. My main triggers are bread, rice, pasta and sugar. Sugar is the worst one.Sugar from many fruits does it to me. Same with cookies, candy, cakes, regular sodas, juice, ice cream. I can tolerate some artificial sweeteners though. This article explains it https://www.obesityhelp.com/articles/what-is-carb-sensitivity-and-how-to-know-if-you-have-it
