    “Just Exercise More”

Problem is, do you have an inherited risk of obesity or how many kids do you see that are thin with overweight parents? Is the problem culture of food eating patterns? Or are we talking some of the Asian populations that do have this problem - and don't have the problem with rice that other cultures do? They also didn't note anything about the food patterns in the studies. Or I missed it.

    “Just Exercise More”

In the past battles against obesity, patients often heard the advice to simply increase exercise. Now researchers are actually quantifying the amount of exercise needed to prevent (and possibly reverse) the disease according to genetic risk factors. Thoughts? Comments? https://news.vumc.org/2024/03/27/higher-genetic-obesity-risk-exercise-harder/ https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jamanetworkopen/fullarticle/2816822
  4. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate your comment. It’s good to know that I’m not experiencing the impossible. Or imagining it
  5. oopsies sorry...didn't realize u had a revision...(i am just a single surgery sleever)...disregard my earlier post!
  6. so you went from sleeve to bypass? That will usually cure it - or at minimum, greatly improve it. Hopefully something will show up on your (May) endoscopy so they'll know what's going on.
  7. yes...i had/have this issue. i learned to make sure i ALWAYS go to bed (or lay down) on an empty stomach, and sleep with my head slightly elevated. it has got a little better over the years (i'm 5+ years out now), but if im not careful i'll wake up choking on some bile/throwup very suddenly. this has probably happened 4-5 times in just the last 12 months alone...all under the same circumstance: i fell asleep on the couch watching tv after eating something. it used to happen much more frequently in the beginning, so yeah it got better...but i dunno if my reflux itself got better, or if i just got better at managing the triggers 🤷🏻‍♀️

    Weight Gain Scare

Not that uncommon. I can eat a pretty "normal" amount of food as well, depending on what time of day it is, activity level and what kind of food. Take a look at Dr. Weiner's video on increasing portion sizes: Interesting chart about 1:30 min in. I wish surgeons would educate their patients on this and telling them that it's normal and nothing to be scared about ("my surgery failed" - no it most likely didn't).
  10. Difficult situation. Before making a final decision, find out what financial options you have to cover expenses while on sick leave.

The insanity of American health insurance

Social security money going in there here, meh. Germany's health care system is unfair as f*ck (i. e. what insurance is paying for without even batting an eye and what patients have to fight for. Hint: one example of the stuff you have to fight for is everything obesity related, especially plastics which is all too often not covered, only partly covered (try getting a breast lift...) or covered only if you're the lucky one (there are some who get it all covered without any fight but the criteria seem to be rather random), like winning some kind of lottery). If you don't want to experience a blood pressure crisis - don't take a closer look.

The insanity of American health insurance

Ah, dealing with health insurance... A guarantee to going crazy and insane in every country as it seems.

  18. Thanks @LisaCaryl @NickelChip @RonHall908 For your support yesterday ... t'was a very angry day for me because it bought up a lot of the disregard I've had to deal with these last few years because of my weight! Today is a better day. I'm just off to meet my physio ... who will no doubt make me do squats but who also emailed last night that he'd found a list of fat friendly doctors in my area for me ... Also I'm a metric girl... and I've hit below 80kg - I'm 79.6kg this morning (175.1lbs) ... and breaking that 80's barrier hasn't happened for me since 2021 so I'm very encouraged this morning. also I took liquid iron the parmacist reccomended no problem at all... and she mentionned my visible weightloss in a very chic, discreet and also commercially savy way ... bascially asked me if I wanted to get myself a new lip gloss or shampoo at the pharmacy too... I asked her why and she said with a smile "to congratulate yourself on these little changes you seem to be making" . She won, I got an expensive pharmacy face cream... 🙂 Do you folks have very dry skin? Mine is really not great at all... especially my legs.
  19. I am waking at night with naseau or reflux (kind of trying to figure out which it is). Has ANYONE experienced this? I’m praying that it’s nothing serious because the whole reason I had the revision surgery was for bad erosions that wouldn’t heal from acid reflux (after the sleeve). had an endoscopy two weeks ago and have another scheduled In May THANK U FOR SHARING/your time

How can I possibly live like this?

Have you spoken with your surgeon about this yet? What did they say?

  23. I went and bought cauli rice and zucchini spirals today and tried the rice again tonight. I’ve had it before but just remembered it not really having a flavor. Same thing this time but I added more sauce to my meal and it wasn’t bad. I had it with Italian sausage and peppers from the factor meals I ordered that are low calories not but low carb. I tossed the red potatoes and subbed in the cauli rice. If that’s what they are talking about when they say low carb, I think I can do it. Dinner was a hit. I added it to my list of things to try to make myself to add variety. I just need to find a low carb marinara sauce I’m guessing. Raos makes one that 6g carb. I added that to my cart with the Italian sausages to try to make that meal myself later this week. I am also going to pick up a spaghetti squash and the ragu bolognese sauce @Spinoza suggested at publix because they sell it already halved and I find that difficult to do. PS, I am not a big cook historically so fingers crossed it works out for me. Question? Has anyone tried the Italian turkey sausage to cut some of the fat too.
  24. I think the OP means into the 60kg range (basically under 150lbs!) not in their 60's age wise!!! But I agree the weight loss is phenomenal and inspiring! well done @Megan Black
  25. I’m replying to myself so others who are interested in the same topic can learn what I have found. Crustless Quiche low carb and it is EASY to make without a crust. It’s just scrambled eggs in a pan. I just popped some in the oven from a low carb cookbook with broccoli and cheddar. I am not certain whether the one cup of cheese is too much for 8 servings but that can be adjusted I think. The servings are bariatric size. It uses a muffin tin. Anyways, I have been buying quiche for years and now that I know it’s so easy I can control what I put in it. If I’m the only one who didn’t realize this just ignore me. But I’m excited. 😂
