I'm really struggling today. Frustrated with Hunger pains I'm having. True honest. Tummy Rumblings.

I chose this drastic surgery due my issues with hunger pains.

Going without meals was a punishment for me growing up.

I'm 3 weeks and a day out from surgery and on soft foods still. I've been hungry or full after a few bites today. This sucks!

I started my day off with 1/2 c coffee with small amnt milk and spoon sugar. Then a protein drink for 160 cal and 30g protein. Mid morning snack of some egg salad 1/2 cup ?200 cal and 9g protein. Lunch consisted of 4 ritz crackers, and an ounce of Braunschweiger 90 cal 4g protein ....then was hungry hour later and working on another 1/2 cup egg salad. I'm already at 817 calories for the day!! 54g protein.

Hoping that after this egg salad is in me, I'll be ok til dinner.

Carbs make you hungry. Lose the sugar. You shouldn't be having sugar anyway. I never feel hungry. Never have tummy rumblings. I did read before in a bariatric book that people should have a large glass of water when they feel hungry and they shouldn't be- cuz they had food not to long ago. Often it is your body's way of telling you that you need water and you need hydration. But many people think it means they need food. Try it. It amazes me how that works. Good luck. Proccessed food isn't a great choice- like braunschweiger. Just sayin. Good luck. And please- I am not preaching or judging - just having conversation.

I'm a fan of everything in moderation, and that's where I'll go when I get several months out. However, it's still pretty early in the game for you, and you might feel less hungry if you focus on protein and skip stuff like crackers, which will leave your tummy pretty quickly and leave you hungry sooner. Also, be aware of when you're drinking your liquids - remember that if you drink them too soon after eating, it has a tendency to hurry the food right on through.

Another thing you might try, if you aren't doing so already, is taking a PPI - one of the things I hear consistently is that an overly acidic stomach can cause sensations that mimic hunger even though you're not actually empty.

Just some thoughts - good luck!

I agree with above...skip the carbs and the sugar....use a substitute for your coffee.

I would also like to add that you will feel hunger in your tummy if you have too much acid. You need to take an acid blocker like prevacid or zantac once a day for a few weeks, especially right after surgery. This is where some folks hunger comes from.. too much acid. Some if it is head hunger. Are you bored? Sometimes when I am bored, I tend to have that "never get full" thing and am always looking for something to snack on or eat. I had to really work on that after surgery. I am almost two years out and have been at goal for almost a year. Try drinking some water when you think you need to eat and cut back on the carbs. They make you crave more. Find something to do to keep your mind and hands busy. That should help with it. If you are busy, time will pass and you will realize you were not truly hungry. HTH Tammi

The crackers were on my soft food stage plan, and nut was okay with a tsp of sugar in my 1 cup of coffee. She got back to me about the hunger and said that at the soft food stage, the food tends to just go thru you and is not as satisfying. Looking forward to advancing my diet in another week or so. I am on NEXIUM..,have been for years. Maybe I'm still making a little more acid than I'm used to. Thanks for feedback.
