Help, Ladies! Yeast infections since surgery! OMG, TMI!

This is TMI, I know, but something has got to give!! Ok, I know this is not something we ladies like to discuss and being a private person makes this very uncomfortable, but I HAVE GOT TO HAVE SOME INPUT AND HELP! Since my surgery, I have had a yeast infection every month, without fail. Has anyone else experienced this???? If so, besides the normal medications/creams, what else did you do to help it? I have done some research on other sites, and a few folks have had this same issue. One said taking a probiotic helped, one said eating yogurt alot helps (and I do eat Greek yogurt at least 2 times a week), etc. I wonder if my body is in "shock" from all of the rapid changes and for some reason it is reacting this way???? Could it be a vitamin imbalance??? The first one started right after I came home, and I just marked it up to the catheter and antibiotics that I was given in the hospital---as we all know, it is totally normal to get a yeast infection from taking antibiotics, no big deal. But, the infections are returning with a vengence each month, and each one is worse than the month before. Any suggestions, similar experiences??? Signed, ON FIRE IN ALABAMA, AND NOT IN A GOOD WAY.

You HAVE to get some healthy bacteria into your body.

Kefir is a probiotic and tastes like a yogurt smoothie

Greek Yogurt is extremely high in Acidopholus and probiotic nutrients.

NatureMade makes a Triple Probiotic vitamin that is new. I would look for it at a walmart or drugstore.

eating yogurt only 2x per week will not help...you MUST increase your intake or supplement daily with a probiotic vitamin

Probiotics are a powerful ally against yeast overgrowth. All that beneficial bacteria helps control the yeast and keeps things healthy – and this is especially true if you are taking antibiotics.

Don’t wait until your round of antibiotics is over to start taking probiotics; begin right away, so that as the antibiotics are killing off all of the bacteria inside you (good and bad alike), you are replenishing the good bacteria. Many people find that they develop yeast infections during or just after taking antibiotics. Probiotics are the solution here.

Probiotic capsules will work, but so will eating lots of plain yogurt or other cultured foods and drinks, such as lacto-fermented pickles and kombucha. Personally, I take a probiotic capsule everyday, and I also include cultured foods in my diet on a regular basis.

2) Cut Out the Sugar

This sounds simple: sugar feeds yeast. If you have a yeast infection, cut out the sugar from your diet.

I would begin this immediately and also begin googling yeast infections and read, read, read.

you will find that yeast infections are LITERALLY mostly because of DIET. you need to reavaluate your diet and get it "clean"...in other words, eating a clean diet will be your best ammunition.

Thanks for the info. My diet is about as clean as you can get, and my sugar consumption is almost nil. I definitely will begin taking a probiotic ASAP, though, and I have an appt with my gyno in a few weeks.

I am having the same issue and it seems like I get one about a week before I am supposed to start. I have a GYN that will call in some diflucan anytime I need it so I'm lucy in that respect and usually one dose knocks it out completely. I know to add acidophilus but I just hadn't thought about it. I don't eat a lot of yogurt either, just trying to stay away from so many carbs. My sugar intake is ZERO so I know that is not it. I think it can also be hormonal. Good luck with getting yours better. You may want to call your GYN and see if you can get a diflucan, with in 3-5 days you should be feeling better (sorry that it's not sooner)

Yep, my infections are about a week before my period, too. I am glad to hear I am not the only one. I will start the probiotic today and my gyno is supposed to call in some diflucan today. Sorry to hear you have the same issue. Maybe someone on here has some answers as to why this is happening to us after surgery. Best wishes to you!!

I have fought yeast for the last few years and tried just about everything. Don't buy acidophilus from walmart or any drug store. To get the good stuff you need to call your local health food store and ask for Multidophilus by Solaray. Solaray is the brand. This is kept in the refrigerator section. They are capsules. Take 2 three times a day until the burning subsides, then two am and two pm, then two a day, forever!!

I have tried many many brands of acidophilus and bifidofilus, but this is by far the highest quality I have found. Also, because it contains live strains, it must be refrigerated. Stuff off the shelf from grocery stores has already died, so it is pointless.

I had it after i got home from the hospital and it went away after my monthly. Its only being a month so i pray to god it dont reoccur. I did not know antibiotics can cause yeast infection. i was thinking that might have been the cause since i was on antibiotics for 2 weeks after surgery i just wasnt sure. Thanks for the info because i was wondering where i got it from. :)
