Feeling Sad

I am feeling sad. My niece and I started this WLS journey a few months apart, to be honest it is because of her wanting the surgery, that I started looking into it and decided that it was the best thing for me. Well I called her excited telling her about tomorrow and me signing the consent and now she is talking about she might not have her gastric sleeve.

Issues has come up along the way for her, she has gall stones, something may be wrong with her kidneys(they have to test it again) and she have a low B1 level. So now she is saying if she doesn't have surgery this year she isn't going to have it. I feel as if my balloon has been deflated and tried to give her a pep talk and she said that she doesn't want to hear it.

I feel so guilty that everything is going smoothly for me and not for her, I don't want her to be mad at me, especially since it is sorta because of her that I decided to do this. I don't know what to do, is it wrong that I am still excited for me? I am just confused right now, any advice will truly be appreciated.

sorry to hear about your niece. Maybe she's disappointed about her complications, that's why she's shutting down on having the surgery. Keep being supportive, once she's in a better place in a medical stand point and see how well you are doing, she might give it a go again. I don't think you should feel guilty or feel wrong for being excited. I would be a little mindful around her. I have a feeling you two have a close relationship, so you will find a way to be there for each other(=

I sorry to hear that. I was told many people had the gallbadder out the same time they were sleeved. I hope everything else comes back ok for her. Just be auntie that never fails. Maybe research with her alternatives. I hope it works out.

Hi, I'm so sorry you're feeling sad. I can imagine you're disappointed. I'm sure you were really looking forward to having someone to go through this process with.

But you absolutely should not feel guilty!! You may have decided to do this together but you still had to come to your decision first. I would just let her know that you are there if she wants to talk about or if she changes her mind down the road you will be there to support and help her.

I have a feeling that once you go through it and she sees your success she may very well change her mind....and then you can be her mentor!

i understand how you feel but in the end you have to do what is right for you. you cant feel guilty for having joy for yourself because who else is going to feel as good as you do knowing that you made the right decision. things will happen for her eventually, it may just not be the right time right now. good luck to you and her!! congrats!!!
