Hello Everyone,

My name is Rosalia. I am located in Tacoma. WA.

I am very much interested in getting the Lapband implanted, I just do not know how to start this whole process. My insurance is Tricare Prime, my father recently just retired from the miltary last year, so we no longer have our general appointments at the MTF (Military Hospital) now we go to Multicare Northshore Clinic, in Tacoma. We would still get all our surgeries/ any prescriptions on base. People are saying I need to get a referral from my PCM but I really don't know what that is :/ to be honest. Would I just make an appointment with my Family Doctor to get her approval, so she can put in a referral for me? I don't know guys I'm really lost and I really want this more than anything. Please help. (:

Also, my co-morbidity would be PCOS, since I was diagnosed with it at the beginning of January.

I had to start with my family Dr. It is a long process so don't get discouraged. Make an appointment with your doc and tell her what you want and she should be able to point you in the right direction.

Your primary care doc SHOULD know how to get you hooked up with a bariatric surgeon but many of them dont or think you should just join a gym or whatever.Be ready in case the doc tries to talk you out of it. So do your homework first on the internet and find out all the docs who do this procedure near you and which ones would or might accept your type of insurance.Your PCOS should help you get it covered by insurance depending on your BMI. I would call your insurance co first in case you need to gain a few pounds before you go get weighed at the doc office...I know it sounds crazy but you will need to have a few spare pounds OVER the cutoff which you will make a (not too successful effort or they will say no) to lose during a six month supervised diet...many people here have put weights in their pockets etc because gaining weight on purpose is not a very mentally healthy thing to do.

Your whole thing will be different than everyones depending on everything but I tell everyone to read the blog of band-groupie called The Sweet Spot because she takes you thru the whole thing. Start at the beginning as she is dealing with insurance etc.

Good luck, you will get lots of info here from all of us who have been through it...its kind of a battle but its well worth it!!!

    • I’ve used my Xbox for exercise games too and it can be pretty motivating, especially on days when I don’t want to leave the house. Kinect games really do make you move, and after a session with kickboxing or dancing, I always feel like I’ve actually gotten a solid workout. The controller-free setup feels way more natural for workouts than anything I tried on the Wii. Zumba is fun but definitely takes a little time to get the moves right. Lately, when I’m not working out, I spend time trading CS2 skins and finding new guides on this link. There’s a lot of interesting tips if you’re into games outside of fitness too.
    • I'm literally almost crying reading this. Mostly because I'mon this pre-op diet and these last two days have been difficult... but also because I needed this! Thank you! Congrats! And a BIG congrats on quitting smoking a second time! It was hard enough to do it once... So - when I say BIG congrats... I mean BIIIIIG congrats! ❤️

      Einarmige Banditen
