  5. Hey chickee. . . Doing great. Due November 4th, and feeling really good. Not having any issues, waiting for the spina bifida screening to come back, have the gender determination U/S on Friday.

  6. Tiff,

I am so happy for you! How are you feeling? When are you due?

  7. I put about 1/2 cup of fresh papaya in my Protein shake each morning. Papaya acts like an enzyme, in fact I think it is the main ingredient in meat tenderizer...try it. Might work. Lots of Vitamins too! I don't like the way it tastes by itself, but in a shake, it just adds sweetness.

I knew how many surgeries he had done because I asked him.

    Mexico vs. Louisiana

According to the Obesity Help website where you can review the qualifications of surgeons in Louisiana (and elsewhere), Dr Bellanger has performed over 400 VSGs. Dr Hargroder has done 100. I read a lot of research before having my VSG by Dr Aceves in Mexico. He's done about 1000 with NO leaks, so his statistics made me feel very confident. The research says that once the surgeon has done over 300 of the procedures, their complication rate drops considerably. They have then seen about every possible complication and know how to handle them. Good luck!

    is chat broken?

It's been a long time since I've been on the site and the chat room is not working like it used to. I can't figure out how to use it. I log into it, it looks like I am listed with two other folks but I can't type anything. Anyone got advice? Thanks. Cathryn
  11. Hi Tiff! Long time no talk! I've been busy "living life".

Had an upper GI to check on my esophageal diverticulum...stable, under 3 cm. no change. Good news. It will likely remain that way as most don't cause a problem.

Loving our Fall weather today...FINALLY!. Wow it was a long, hot summer here.

    Cajun

  12. Hi Cajun, I came across ur profile & was immediately drawn to u-I was born & raised n New Iberia , La-I now live in Ca due to marry'g a military man, something I said I'd never do-I also said I'd never b/c very overweight-havn't been home n 2 yrs-I miss my hometown, family, friends so much-I was approved for gastric bypass & was waiting on a surgery date when I woke up 1 day a week ago & just knew that the bypass was not for me-my ins. as of yet doesn't cover the sleeve-I found out that 5 major ins. co's now cover it so Im going to wait for my ins. co. to cover it-n the meantime I decided to act like I was still waiting on surgery date & follow a high-protein replacement meal regiment-I still had to lose 14 lbs b/4 getting surgery so hopefully I'll b able to stick to this new way of eating-my surgeon gave me a goal weight loss of 140 lbs so I'm trying not to look at that whole amount & just give myself '20 lb' goal losses-I pray ur doing well-take care!

  13. The spinal block is actually the recommended standard of care for obese patients in this country, and one of the main reasons is it allows the anesthesiologist to use less general anesthesia. Obese persons need a lot more general anesthesia to be put to sleep, because of our weight. Getting less general anesthesia is a lot safer, you wake up quicker, and have less possible anesthesia side effects, less chance of pneumonia, less time being immobile. The spinal also does a great job of pain control. I had the spinal by Dr Aceves' anesthesiologist, and they left it in until the day I was discharged, so I could get meds through the tube during my hospital stay. It was great.
  14. Hi cajun,

nice to read your post i'm a louisiana girl too. Down in the big bad city, it's a great place to live, but living here it is difficult to adhere to a strict diet, etouffees, gumbos, po boys on my gosh i think i'd better change the subject i just gave myself head hunger.(lol)

  15. Well, at least one good thing came out of this horrific experience...the vas. Take your time deciding on this...and if you ever decide to go ahead with the surgery, there are ways to prepare so you have the least possible anxiety. Your counsellor and surgeon can help with those things. If you decide to not have the surgery, no one could blame you after what you went through. We are here for you....thanks for trusting us with your story.
