I have been a yo-yo dieter most of my life. I didn't have trouble with my weight until I gave birth to my first child. I also noticed more trouble as I headed into early pre-menopause. Then, in 2010, I was seriously injured and unfortunately will not fully recover.  I was on a large amount of steroids and bed-ridden for two months, then spent several months recovering. I packed on the weight. I went up to 200 lbs from 160.

Basically, I have permanent nerve damage in my right leg, foot, and ankle. It doesn't hurt. I just have a loss of feeling, balance, and control. I am limited in what I can do. I can't run. I don't have the balance/control for biking, but I can walk - up to 1 mile and not every day - about 3 times per week. I do have a problem with food portion but even more so with a lack of exercise.

Before my injury, I had a very active job and enjoyed walking and bike riding. This helped me to keep my weight in the normal range. I would eat a full plate of food, but I was active, so it was balanced. I have learned over the years that with hormonal issues, staying active is a must ! Simply dieting will not do it alone - at least for me. I HAVE increased the amount of food I eat over the last few years and I do think it is due to emotional eating. I have had a hard time coming to terms with my limitations.

My blood pressure was always below 120/80. I am now averaging 130/80. I do not have any other health issues - no diabetes or sleep apnea.  I don't smoke and I rarely drink.

I truly feel at this point, with the help of weight loss surgery, it will give me the boost that I need. The more weight I have on, the more it affects my stamina and the less exercise I can do. Without the help, I feel like I am fighting an uphill battle.

My goal: To have a maximum weight of 150. To increase my stamina and be able to ride a bike again. To be able to walk 3 miles per day x 3 times per week !
