Hello,
I am Sue and have finished one year of my journey in weight loss.  My surgery, gastric sleeve, was February 2014 and to date I have lost 160 lbs.  I am at the point where I have 30 lbs. to go but might find it comfortable to stay where I am.  I feel that might be letting myself down but still thinking on it.

My goal in this trip was to feel better- less heavy and to rid myself of restrictions to movement and participating in things.  I am lighter for sure and lighter in thought as well.  I do not worry about if I can fit into chairs, how far do I have to walk, can I do stars or will there be an elevator.  What is better are the small achievements that came along as well as the large ones.  Large ones- easy travel on airplanes, sit anywhere, walk far and fast.  Small- up and down stairs easily, cross legs, borrow a coat or shirt from a friend, kneel in church, garden,..

I have had a generally easy time with the process. Only now have I hit a bump- gained 3 lbs. This is my first gain and shocked me a bit even though I knew it could happen and know why.  I added some trigger food back in thinking one or two a day would be okay.  Not combined and still triggers that started more munching and higher fat food cravings.  So went back to protein shakes and low fat watch again and back on track.  However things have slowed down for these last 30 lbs and that brings me to this support group.  I have focused back on exercise and with the good weather coming will be able to get out and do more.

A fellow surgery pal at exercise class motioned this group and that she found it very helpful.  More so than our face to face support group.  So I am checking this out to see if it can help me enter the real world of living with the procedure and monitoring myself.  I do no have to check back in with the doctor for a year.  That means I am in charge of things and now monitoring myself which makes me nervous.  So insight on things from those who have been there and are still there I hope will ease some of the questions that I have and will have.

I am an environmental educator so getting more mobility has really helped me and rejuvenated my program planning and participation.  I am 52 and feel that this is the next best phase on my life.  I look forward to travel and hope to go to the places I have always wanted to see- Alaska and Kenya, Africa.  I have three pets,2 cats and one old beagle who keep me very busy.  I escape from work and family by quilting and love the lost hours there.

Sue
