I have just started my weight loss journey but am so glad that I made the decision to start it!
After 17 years as an active duty AF wife who has followed her husband through 7 moves..I just couldn't lose the weight that I added and added and added for the past 12 years or so. I just lost my ability to care about my weight and since I am "tall" I let myself slide for way too long thinking that I looked "ok" and just not facing the truth. I used to exercise like a fiend (at one point was going to be a step aerobics instructor) but once we moved to Europe that changed as there was no child care for my newborn at the base gym and my husband was constantly gone/or deployed. It also didn't help that we lived in Europe and the food and drinks there are so yummy. I knew that my time there was limited so I experienced all it had to offer..with 20 more pounds added as a result.
After 5 years in Germany, we moved to Maryland and soon after I had another baby (more weight) and then 3 years later just as soon as the baby was old enough not to cry at the day care at the gym ...boom..it was time to move again...this time back to our home state of SC.
I just "survived" during 2014..wasn't really living..didn't put myself first and really wasn't motivated to do anything except get through the day.
I developed high blood pressure in Europe after my first son and I never lost the weight to get it down. So then high cholesterol began in 2014 and the last straw was when I started this WLS process and I was forced to do the sleep study...convinced I didn't have a problem. Well..whadya know? I have sleep apnea! Well that explained a lot! I thought I was just tired in 2014 from the move and from my very young boys running me ragged! As soon as I started sleeping with that awful machine..I felt an immense difference in energy level. But..now the knowledge and the "gain" of the trifecta of life threatening conditions has woken me up..and I know I had to start caring more about me.
So with the surgery looming I started working out regularly again and I wear that darth vador mask religiously every night. The liquid pre-op diet is boring as all get out but it's doable and thanks to it I'm down 15 pounds.
I'm nervous and excited at the same time about the surgery but I still continue to believe that it is the right thing for me. My family is very supportive and for that I am so thankful. I just keep plugging along and making good choices every day and I know that will pay off in the end. :)
