I am a pretty faced, comfort eating, big hearted woman. I come from a long line of morbidly obese women with type 2 diabetes, PCOS and metabolic syndrome, not to mention that I love to eat, it has been both physically and emotionally comforting. As a child, my mother would try her best to restrict my portions, and lecture me about watching my wt. Many times I remember her stating "if you don't stop you will weigh 500 lb before its over. Food was my friend. It was there for me when my parents and friends could not be. Being diagnosed with sleep apnea, type 2 diabetes and PVD scared me but didn't stop me. The final straw was after a 6 month hiatus after another failed attempt at wt loss, I decided to weigh myself and low and behold...my mother's words from childhood had become a reality. I weighed in at 502...I couldn't share this news with my family...I was so ashamed and disappointed in myself. I couldn't even tell my sweet husband who has loved me always regardless of my size. I told no one. I talked with friends who have had surgery or were considering it and made an appt. I was qualified for surgery, (self-pay) and had the gastric sleeve 1/19/15. As of today (3/29/15) I am 86# down... starting from my weigh in preop of 502. Long way to go, and have had some challenges (mostly head hunger) along the way, but I feel so much better. My color looks better, I have way more energy. I know the surgery was only a tool. This must be a life change, and each day has challenges but this is my window, my shot and I am determined to not fail. I struggle some days while others are easy. I am looking for a mentor to help guide me along the way. I have no regrets about having surgery, save one...I wish I had done it sooner!
