I found BariatricPal by searching for websites that actually talk about WLS. There are not that many. I had my surgery, which I call my new birthday, on January 11, 2013. I have lost 182lbs. I chose to have gastric bypass after spending many, many years being overweight, unhealthy, yo-yo dieting, and just being miserable after every failure. I am past my goal weight. I had my goal at 160 but I am at 138.
Post-op was not easy. I did have a lot of, what I call, my food revisiting me! I had issues where food did not "sit well" and I would end up puking! The different stages of food was hard. It was not easy. But I never strayed. I always did everything I was suppose to. I always listened to my doctor and dietitian. I still to this day do not eat sugar, I never was a soda drinker, I eat sugar free is I want something sweet. But I am making sure that I never become the old me again.
I have had many friends have weight loss surgery recently and I talk with them and motivate them, and do what I can to help them out as much as possible. I have a Facebook page that I started called "The Bariatric Me" that I started to help motivate anyone, even if they don't have weight loss surgery, to become healthier, happier people.
