Hi anyone reading this! My name is Mia, i am 28 years old, I live in Colorado and I have been married 10 years. I have 3 beautiful children and here is my story. All my life I have been a little bit "thicker" than all of the other people that were my age. I was not overweight and was healthy as I always participated in soccer, softball and cheerleading. But while all all of my friends were size 2's in high school I was always a size 7 or 9. I knew I would put on weight easily just because of the type of I carried. When I got pregnant with my first son at 18 my weight went from 120 to 180. After having him I lost about 40 of the 60 lbs I put on during pregnancy. I got pregnant with my second son a year later and only gained 40 lbs during this pregnancy and lost 30 lbs after having him, leaving my weight at 150. I am only 4'11" so already this weight puts me into the obese category. 2 years later I got pregnant with my daughter and gained 30 lbs during this pregnancy losing only 10 of it after, leaving me at a weight of 170. After having my daughter I was determined to have weight loss surgery. I had a close friend of mine who had surgery and I knew from watching her success that this was the path I wanted to take. I checked into it and found out I needed a BMI of 40, at the time my BMI was only 35, I kind of let some time pass and let it go for a while, enjoyed the holidays and ended up putting on some weight, 25lbs! Well as I stared at the scale in disbelief that a human could and did gain 25lbs in 3 months I realized I would be able to have weight loss surgery now with a BMI of 40 and a weight of 195lbs! This was back in 2012. I did my 6 months of classes, I saw a nutritionist, I met with the psychologist, everything that I would have to do to have the sleeve surgery (that is the surgery I wanted and my surgeon said I only needed during that time) 2 weeks before my surgery I was called by my surgeon's office because as they were trying to run my insurance for my pre-op appointment my insurance was declined. I was on the phone all day trying to figure it out until I was told that I should never have been on medicaid because my income was too high and I didn't qualify. So 2 weeks before my scheduled surgery date my surgery was cancelled. I was devastated. I cried for days and it was all I thought about, I was seriously at a total loss for a while. I started researching other options and came across the idea of going to Mexico. I was all for it and desperate at this time to have WLS. I knew I didn't have the money to pay for it so I was ready to use a finance company, problem was my credit was not good enough. I needed a cosigner. I begged my dad, but my evil step-mom (who my dad is now no longer with) wouldn't let him help me. I begged my real mom who I am not that close with but being 5'0" herself and weight 100bs she has always felt bad for me having weight issues. She said she would do it! I couldn't believe it but I was so excited and felt like I was going to get to have surgery again!! Little did I know that dream would be crushed a week later when we were having to sign paperwork for the loan. She changed her mind and couldn't go through with it anymore. She wouldn't do it for me anymore. I told her I had already bought a plane ticket to Mexico and everything but the answer was still no for some reason. So I just got back to work and got back to life for another year and gained more weight. My highest weight was about 6 months ago at 218. In March of 2014 I found out I was losing my job at the end of the school year (I am a teacher) I was devastated about this also. Then I realized I would be able to have WLS now. (oh by the way my insurance through my work did not cover WLS, I checked!) So in May I started attending my 6 months of weight loss classes again, I just finished those up in October. I have seen my psychologist again, about to see the nutritionist again, and just saw my surgeon again and got a surgery date for December 9, 2014. I am praying that everything works out this time. My hopes are as high as they every have been each time and I just need it to happen this time! Do not feel obligated to write an introduction this long, I copied and pasted this from the Bariatric Pal website since I took the time to write it all out on there. I look forward to getting to know you all and hearing all of your stories! :)
