Hi, I'm Beth and I have been struggling with obesity for ten years. I am currently 303 lbs and my Gastric Sleeve surgery date is (barring any problems) will be Sept 16, 2014.
I have lost 12 lbs since my first visit to Dr Ewing of Advanced Laparoscopic in Paramus NJ. He hasn't required a specific pre op diet but suggested reducing my food intake by 20% and chewing each bite at least 20 times. In the past two months I have jumped through BCBS NJ's hoops and I am waiting the 7 to 10 business days for my insurance OK.
So far I really like my surgeon and his support staff. The group is "full service" with an excellent nutritionist and informative seminars and patient support groups.
My biggest concern is that my surgery is delayed. For me to close my business for a month to recover enough to do my job has been costly and difficult.
I have been preparing for a month and have already packed an overnight bag with comfy slippers, gasX strips, chap stick, a pillow and baby wipes. My pantry is full of Unjury shakes, broths, sugar free Jello and puddings, organic apple sauce and Bariatric vitamins and supplements. Poland Spring will be delivering the bottled water I will need on a monthly basis.
I have already arranged for my three little dogs to be groomed and my house to be cleaned the week before my surgery. I live alone in my own house but all of my friends, neighbors and clients know about my plans and I have a full schedule of post surgical support mapped out
I guess you could say I'm a bit obsessive but it all keeps my mind off of surgery and recovery.
So, that's me. All I want is to get my life back. To be able to enjoy a walk, to be comfortable in my own body. I am sure this is worth it.
