Until about 3 months ago I had never heard of gastric sleeve surgery until my doctor suggested it. I have had a life-long battle with escalating weight gain and now in my 50s I am definitely losing the battle (but not the weight). I have other co-morbidities and time is running out.

So I did my research and went back to the doctor, with my husband's support, and said 'yes please'. However when we saw the surgeon he recommended for me the Omega Loop, or mini gastric bypass, which has a restrictive component and a mal-absorption component, and he feels this is the better option.

But the thing is, it is a relatively new procedure in Australia and he himself has only performed 6 surgeries to date. He is very experienced in the sleeve and he is off shortly to Canada for a bariatric conference to gain further information and education on the Omega Loop amongst other things.

So, I am in a bit of a quandary..... there seems to be little information out there about long-term effects and results. I have read most of the journals reporting on this, but it is still all fairly new. I am about 90% sure I will go ahead with the Omega Loop, but I guess I want some more reassurance that this will go well and I will have a better and healthier future post op.

Here's hoping
