In 2008, after hearing my mom's many reports of dangerously high blood pressure and cholesterol levels, development of diabetes, arthritis, and so forth, I decided to have lap band surgery to hopefully prevent problems before they started in me.
Initially I did really well, but the past 2 yrs I started having problems. Now im hoping to be approved for revision to gastric bypass. I was self pay for banding becasuse I didn't meet the requirements, but my insurance with Humana will cover the revision if need is proven.
Staying positive and ready to get back on track .
UPDATE:  It's been awhile since I posted on here, but I was able to have my surgery after a month delay due to low iron levels. Within the first month, I had to return to the hospital due to dehydration related to a stricture, which prevented me from eating and only able to drink small sips of liquids.  A year later, I had my gallbladder removed. The next year I had an abdominal hernia repair.
I have yet to reach my goal weight of 130. I know they say the weight loss is slower with a revision surgery and that has proved to be true, but at the same time I have to take responsibility for my part in that. I haven't always followed my diet and like many people do, I tested out my tolerance of foods I didn't need to be eating. Having weightloss surgery isn't a magic solution to make you stop eating bad, it is just a tool to help you not eat as much. I also stopped exercising after a few knee injuries, which was a big mistake. I not only feel weaker due to muscle loss, but also look bigger even though I weigh less than 20lbs ago.
I am hoping by reconnecting to this site and with others here, I can not only receive support, but give support to others.  I may be 50 now, but I am not dead. As long as I'm alive, there is still something I can do to improve my life.
