I am married with 3 grown daughters and now 3 grandchildren, the newest one just 6 weeks old. I have been a nurse for 36 years and I love my job, although my weight has made it increasingly more difficult to work 12 hours on my feet. I have been overweight my entire adult life, and my weight has fluctuated wildly, depending on the diet of the month. I was diagnosed with GERD 8 years ago and I am on twice daily medication for that and was just recently diagnosed with high blood pressure and now on meds for that. I had the gastric band done in 2006 and was very successful. I lost 80 pounds and was able to maintain that loss until 2009 when I developed the complication of erosion. I had the band removed and promptly starting gaining all my weight back. I felt as though the band surgery was my last hope and became depressed when I had to have it removed. After that the cycle of yo-yo dieting began all over again. My daughter was married in 2011 and I was near my heaviest at her wedding and when I look at the pictures I want to cry. What should have been one of the happiest days of my life became one of embarrassment. My youngest daughter is getting married in November 2014 and that fact snapped me out of my depression and made me reconsider my other options. I researched the sleeve gastrectomy and decided it was for me. I know of several acquaintances who have been successful with this procedure and I saw my doctor on October 31 and started the process. My surgery is scheduled March 26 and I am now counting down the days until my life begins again. Hope you will all support me through this journey.
