About Me

  • Gender
    Female
A lifetime of weight issues that were complicated by severe scoliosis. Excessive back pain and immobility issues prevented excercise of most type. Secondary co-morbidities such as high blood pressure and irregular pulse demanded that I do something about my weight. I know my top weight of 230 doesn't sound bad enough to seek a surgical solution to alot of people, but I was miserable. My pain was intolerable.
I was banded with the band before the Realize band in 2005. I can't remember the product brand. I lost 65 lbs quickly and then the weight loss slowed. Over the next 5 years, I continued to lose down to 145 lbs. Never have made my "goal" of 141 and several times complications and health problems have caused me to re-gain weight. In Dec. 2013, after my eighth spinal surgery and complications of pancreatitis and liver issues, I ballooned back up to 193 lbs. So, in January 2014 (just a few weeks ago!) I got a fill and since then I have lost to 187. Discouraged, but not defeated, I am willing to give the Lap-Band my all. This means eating healthy, going to the heated pool for my low impact exercise 3 times a week, and listening to the tool I've chosen (THE BAND) to help me control myself. This means not continuing to eat something I'm having trouble getting down, and NOT bringing CRAPPY food like ice cream and cookies into my house, under the guise that I'm buying them for my grandchildren (who I only see a couple times a week!) I am 54 years old. Medically retired and a fairly social person. I gave up alcohol in Sept of 2012 and would like to move to a beach community on the West Florida or East Texas coast in the next three years. I would like a swimsuit and flip flops to be my daily attire, and I would prefer to be seen in this fashion at 140 lbs! Comments appreciated! I am ashamed to say that I let my weight control most aspects of my life. Why does the scale determine the way we value ourselves?
