After 5 years of trying to decide WLS or not I felt it was time to get the help I needed. I am a strong willed person and at first felt like it was admitting defeat! Why am I not strong enough to do this on my own? I came to the choose when I finally decided this was not defeat this choice was facing my issues head on and doing the best thing I knew to do and that was get help.

My PCP's nurse practitioner has been my biggest support. I was so worried to talk to doctors before about my weight and when I did it the comments were never positive.

My nurse practitioner took over an hour talking about my choices and what tools we could do to help me and the WLS is the one we felt would have the best results needed for where my health was at. She has made me feel and believe not to judge myself on how I got here and in this place but what am I going to do about it now! She is helping me learn to take care of myself and my health. From the first visit she made the call for me to the surgeon in our area found out insurance acceptance and has played a valuable roll in this journey so far!
I encourage everyone to have someone in their corner to be a cheer leader and advocate and supporter.

I am in the beginning stages of this journey but know I will get to the end with the support team I have behind me. No way do I think this is the easy way out! The easy way out was to do nothing and keep my blinders on!

I received approval to have the gastric bypass and have set my surgery date for April 28,2014. I will say I am so excited but also very scared at the same time I have been trying to balance the emotions and the excitement for this last point of pre-op.

I had my surgery and can honestly say it hasn't been hard food or liquid wise. I had pain issues but I am allergic to pain meds so it is hard to control so that was expected. I spent Monday to Thursday in the hospital I needed that extra day to get use to my pain.
Came home had a rough couple days but that goodness my family was there. As for eating an drinking I left being able to drink 64oz and it never was a problem. I keep my liquids measured to 8oz and drank as much cold water as I could!

Had first follow up on May 14, 2014. I had lost 24lbs and got released for soft foods and swimming. Since my journey started a year before I have lost 67 pounds gone from a 30 to a 22 and a 4x to a 2x. I am looking forward to the upcoming months and changes. I give the credit to the hard work I put in during my program to change my eating habits before I had surgery to my success so far, and my faith in God that this was the right choice for my life....
