I am a 50 year old woman with type II diabetes. I have issues with herniated discs in my neck and back, I have bad knees and I can barely bend over. My blood glucose levels have been completely out of control as of late and I can't stand being sick and tired any longer. Two weeks ago I happened to catch an episode of the Drs. They had a segment on a couple that both had GB and no longer have diabetic symptoms. I have for years thought about having the surgery but have always been scared due to a friends bad experience over 20 years ago. However having diabetes and dealing with all the meds and having to take insulin has made me look at this again. I sat down with my husband that evening and discussed it with him. He is all for my doing this as long as I am doing it for myself. I am.

I have scheduled my first appointment with the endocrinologist and dietician at the Mayo as well as my gastric bypass information session. My first appointment is 10/30 with my info session on 11/27. I am praying that I will be able to get the surgery before summer. I love to garden and hike in the mountains, I love swimming and I haven't been able to do any of that in years due to my various issues.

Once I know more about my process, I will update my story. I am so looking forward to my new life ahead. I will do anything necessary to make sure I live and long and healthy life.
