I have fought the weight issue all my life. I started my weight loss journey in freshman year in highschool with weight watchers and was successful but gained weight over the years especially after pregnancies. I was gestational diabetic and then became type 2 diabetic about 10 years ago. I was maintaining it somewhat successfully with medicine and diet and exercise but was probably not far from insulin in the near future. Also had high blood pressure managed by medicine and also have sleep apnea. So when I looked into weight loss surgery and heard that the gastric bypass actually cures diabetes on the operating table in about 90% of the patients I thought this is the ticket for me. Thankfully I also left the hospital without my Diabetes meds and High blood pressure medicine as well! I still have sleep apnea but greatly improved. I can not describe how much better I feel now a year and half post surgery and never look back. The minor changes in eating (not drinking fluid 1/2 hr before/ during / after eating probably the hardest to adjust to) have all been well worth it and for the best especially health wise for me. I am much more active now. I enjoy walking and bike riding and am even toying with the idea of training for 3K or 5K runs. We'll see!!!
