I started my journey in the beginning of 2013.  I had always been overweight my whole life but in 2013 I had started having a lot of back issues as well as being pre-diabetic.  Since that was the year that I was turning 50 and I decided that I needed to make some serious changes if I was going to make it another 50 years.  I started the bariatric program through Kaiser with a starting weight of 272 lbs.  I had my surgery (vertical sleeve) on July 1, 2013.  I did really and was very happy with the results.  Though I had reached a low of 178 lbs and then bounced back up to 188 lbs (which I was satisfied with and felt good).  Unfortunately, at the beginning of 2015 I started having stomach issues - pain and bloating.  After a number of tests, it was found out that my gallbladder was not functioning properly and in May 2015 it was removed.  This helped with some issues but I was still having pain.  So after further testing, it was found out that my pyloric valve was having problems relaxing and everything that I was eating was bouncing back up (very bad gerd).  It was decided that the best thing to do would be to convert my sleeve to a bypass so that the gerd would go away.  I had bypass surgery in October of 2015 which cured the gerd.  I am still having some pain and am waiting to have an upper GI to see if I have a blockage.
