Hi all!! My name is Melissa. I live in Southeast Louisiana. I have been overweight since the pregnancy and birth of my 2nd (last) child. Around 1999 however, things just got worse. I was weighing approximately 160 when my youngest was about 2 years old, but then started feeling like I was going crazy! Hot flashes, rapid weight gain, worthless, periods totally out of wack. Finally went to OB/GYN because I thought at 29...was I going through menopause early? Answer...NO! I had hyperthyroidism. Instead of losing weight, I gained weight. I proceeded to go to an endocrinologist and my results were less than .0086. That is REALLY high. I opted to do the radioactive iodine therapy to totally shrink my thyroid. It was listed as a toxic goiter.

Now, for the rest of my life, I fight with hypothyroid. My levels do not remain normal for any extended period of time. When they decide to wack out again, I gain. I worked my butt off last year for months, and just lost 9 pounds. I am tired of always feeling like a failure. I was a normal weight my entire life until all this happened. I am tired of it all! My insurance does not cover any type of weight loss surgery. My insurance is sooo bad, that if they find out you have diabetes, blood pressure, or anything related to obesity, they will no longer cover those issues, either. That's pretty bad.

Anyway, after doing several months of wishing, I happened to google to see if there was any groups that helped pay for weight loss surgery. I discovered the option of Mexico, and affordable surgery. I have wiped out my minute 401K to pay for this surgery. I have been to seminars, so knew I was interested in the VSG. I started researching doctors, and am very comfortable and happy with my decision. Now, the waiting begins...

I can't wait for the NSV's that average people take for granted everyday. Such as: giving themselves a pedicure or wiping their hiney without having to be a contortionist...or putting on socks and tying shoes!!!

I can't wait for this journey to start! I have come to the point in my life that I can no longer live like this. I am unhappy and depressed every day. I feel worthless again. Will being SKINNY help? Well, since most of my depression is linked to being overweight, yes, I believe it will. I am 41 and want to be happy in my own skin again, even if it sags! I have loose skin now...just filled with fat! I just want the freedom to move! If I die, at least I died trying instead of not!

If you want to add me on facebook for more support for both of us, my email is mgmarse@yahoo.com. You can find me like that. I do not have people on my profile that I'm not telling, so no worry of "breaking the news" The only people I have no intention on telling are IN LAWS! I'm not good enough for them now. They don't deserve me later!
