Prior to surgery, I had been researching the Lap Band for many years and even attended a seminar.  I just didn't have the finances to go through with it.  In October of 2010, my sister was banded and that of course made me jealous because it was supposed to be MY surgery.  :-)  I explored options to pay for the surgery I had not thought of and the rest is history.  I was diagnosed with severe Laryngo pharyngeal Reflux Disease.  April 18, 2011, my EGD discovered a hernia.  My insurance does not cover WLS, but because I had a hernia, insurance covered half of the surgery costs.  I paid cash for half of the remaining balance and financed the rest.  My surgery was April 29, 2011.  I seem to have had a much more difficult time than others.  I woke up in such tremendous pain, I was actually yelling, "Why did I do this to myself".  I was in the surgery center hours longer than others due to my extreme amount of pain and the fact that my blood pressure and heart rate had dropped very, very low.  My surgery was outpatient in a True Results Surgery Center.  I felt like I was just herded out like cattle and sent home.  It was a miserable first few days that I wish I could erase from my memory.  I had surgery on a Friday, took off a week, and returned to work on the following Monday after my "vacation".  For me, as a home health therapist, it was way too soon and I was in a lot of pain.  I experiened a lot of pain in my port site that lasted a month.  It was difficult for me to get out of bed or do anything that required movement...but eventually, I healed.
