Help! Anyone ever have shortness of breath?

Recommended Posts

(Long - Sorry) I have posted before about this. I was banded on 4/4/08 with no problems until September. I started having a "stomach pain" which my doctor said I had a UTI and put me on 3 different antibiotics finally went to Gynecologist and had ultrasound for female stuff - all okay and she started me on 1 more antibiotic because she said I still had UTI. Beginning 3 weeks ago I started having shortness of breath. Went to an internist, they did catscans, xrays, bloodwork, etc. everything came back normal. Still was having shortness of breath and stomach pain (on right side kinda high). I have already had my gallbladder out in 2003 - so its not that.

I went to my lapband doctor thinking if I had a slight unfill it might make a difference - no such luck. He ended up unfilling me completely and said "go see a medical doctor". I have been to a pulmonolgist and he could not find anything wrong with my lungs. As I sit here now, I am having to position myself so I can get a deep breath - its awful!

I came across some info. on band tubing resting on the diaphram and causing some problems. I asked my lapband nurse about the tubing. She said they wrap it around and under the ribcage - well, hello, that sounds like it could possibly be the problem. My lapband doctor is acting like "not my problem" - I feel so hopeless about all this. Also, with the stomach pain - could it be scar tissue pulling? Because it is like a pulling sensation. Someone please help with any info. you have or have heard on this.

Thanks!

I've never heard of it, but wouldn't an Upper GI show what is going on with your band and tubing? Either your surgeon or a regular doctor can order one of those.

MacMadame,

Thanks for replying - I will ask my lapband dr. about that (he is out of country until 12/2/08 and that is when my appt. is)- my internist wants me to see a gastroenterologist next and possibly have an endoscopy - I sure am dreading that! It just seems that the catscans I have had should have shown the tubing. The radiologist did state that I had a lapband and it was placed correctly, no mention of the tubing.

I am trying to hang in there - its just hard when you can't catch your breath!

I had a problem with shortness of breath, so bad I went to a lung specialist. It turned out that my band was tight enough to cause low grade acid reflux. This resulted in a condition called 'microaspiration' which means I was aspirating small amounts of stomach acid into my lungs while I slept. The telltale sign of this is that I would wake up in the morning with a faint sickly sweet taste in my mouth. This was irritating my lungs and after a few months of it, my lungs couldn't get clear. My lap band doctor had to take out all of the fill until my lungs cleared up. Hope this helps.

Bojamison,

Thanks for replying. I have been to a lung dr. and he said my lungs are clear. But I will research that microaspiration because I am glad to have a possible answer to this. Did you have any burning like it was reflux or just the sweet sickly taste? I don't have any signs of reflux and I have been completely unfilled for 3 weeks. But I still have some restriction - weird, huh?

I'm going to lapband dr. on 12/2 and am demanding answers.

Thanks!

I am starting to have the same problem now. Last week I started to notice a shortness of breathing or in other words have to breathe hard, I went to all Doctors but they said everything looks normal. Then I decided to unfill the band, so I removed 2 cc and asked the doctor if the band could cause a shortness of breathing and he answer no. After I get out of the clinic and while I am walking to my car I started to feel burning in my chest like hell, then I walked back to the hospital seeking help as the feeling was so bad, I sat in the lobby sweating and solve it only buy drinking very cold Water. Today I am using some medication for acid reflux which I hope it help. I can eat everything without any problems however the acid cause me the shortness of breathing. Hopefully this will go soon as it's really worried me. I hope nothing wrong with the band and the band didn't cause any problem to my internal body. If anyone can help or have such situation it's really help to hear from.

No solution or answer, but I also had breathing issues with my band. I was banded in August 2013 and about a year later started having breathing issues. My Dr. said everything was fine but ended up get it unfilled for relief and slowly began with the weight gain. I had the removal in August 2015 and hoping to finally have a revision this August to the sleeve.

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
