Hi, anyone used Dr. Titus Duncan for their lap-band surgery? If so, how did he do?

Dr. Duncan did my surgery as well in January 2008. I have been very pleased with my care. Yes there were areas that could improve but, overall very pleased with physician and surgery.

I realize that this post come very late in light of the datestamp on the origianl post but I thought I'd put my 2 cents in anyway.

I used True Results/Dr. Titus Duncan and had an incredible experience. I have worked with many doctors, especially in the military and to find one who is confident, not pompous, knowledgeable and actually has a bedside manner, such as Dr. Duncan, is rare.

I was a self-pay also and had no problems. All outside services, including nutritional counseling are optional for self-pays so the issue of having them contact me was void.

I was given the Lap Band Solution Book and plenty of documentation on what to eat, when to eat it and especially what to expect. It's not that hard...clear liquids for a week, heavier liquids for a week, then semi-solids. Not brain surgery people.

The people at True Results are more than helpful and the services at Dr. Duncans surgery center were fine as well. One must remember that this is a doctor's office, not a fast food drive through and while our time is as valuable as theirs, I know from experience that things can get backed up easily in a doctor's office. And when emotions are running high every tick of the clock seems like forever.

Patients must also remember that they hold some responsibility for knowing what they need, asking for it, and making sure they get it. Being an informed patient will make a world of difference in any medical experience.

I do admit that the True Results-Atlanta office can be a little slow on 'fill days' so plan on spending a little extra time there. A small price to pay for massive weight loss.

But as for Dr. Duncan and his surgery staff, love, love, love them. I was up and out of there within minutes after surgery and happy to get going. This is laproscopic surgery after all, and there is no need to sit around for hours afterwards. If you are worried about possible vomiting (as I was) have some ginger tea ready to go afterwards. A few sips of that will alleviate any vomiting.

My sister-in-law had the surgery somewhere in Texas and had a terrible time with gagging the day after. Come to find out she had no support, no Lap-Band Book as a guide, and was attempting to eat solids the day after the surgery...goes to show you that a good support staff and proper research and information will make a difference.

I had such an amazingly good experience with my lap-band surgery and Dr. Duncan that I have been asked to speak at their next seminar only 4 months after having the surgery.

Good luck to all.

I just had the lap band with Dr.Duncan on 11/09/09 and my experience was amazing. Dr. Duncan is so "down-to-earth".

and willing to take time to answer all of my questions.

I never had a problem with his office staff, they were all very helpful.

I had my surgery at the Atlanta Ascetics Center, and that was a real treat. It was so much more "one on one" than I would have received in any hospital. I walked into the OR and when Dr. Duncan asked how I was I told him " I am worried about not being worried". I can honestly say that I never once got worried about having my lap band. His team made me feel comfortable with their confidence.

I will admit that I did have a long wait in his office. However, I am willing to wait for a doctor that will take his time with me. Because Dr. Duncan did take his time with me, and really looked at me, he was able to notice something wrong with my thyroid while I was talking. He ordered an ultrasound and found 2 large mass. I am currently waiting on the results of the biopsy now.

I love Dr. Duncan and his staff and would recommend them to anyone. I am sorry it someone had a bad experience with them, They are really good.

I'm in the Pre-Op phase, but I can honestly say my experience with the True Results office in Atlanta has been awesome. Because my professional life is so busy, I absolutely LOVE their 1 stop-shop approach to walking you through the process of all the many steps required for this journey. Many of the appointments that needed to be made, even off-site places, were made right there in their office to make sure they were taken care of. SO-FAR-SO-GOOD !!!

I had my first visit at Dr. Duncan's office today. I have to say that I was amazed at how quickly everything is going. The staff was excellent! I am self pay, so I guess that is part of it. I went to another surgery center in Kennessaw a few years ago, and I feel like they took advantage of me and charged me hundreds of dollars just for a consultation. Needless to say I was so turned off, that I just gave up. This year I got motivated again and found Dr. Duncan. The difference is that now my insurance doesn't cover the surgery, but I am not letting that stop me.

I was wondering, does Real Results budge at all on the cost of the surgery, or let you make payments?

I used Real Results too, and so far so good. I bet you can try to negotiate cost down with them but not sure how successful you will be. Maybe you won't need so many pre-op qualifiers since you are self pay. It is my experience they won't let you do payments but they will help you get approved financing through a company called Care Credit. If you have any questions about their office send me a message on here I'd be happy to answer if I can!

I finally had my surgery on Aug 20th. My entire experience with Real Results and Dr. Duncan has been AMAZING !!!

I would recommend him to ANYONE. He thinks of everything up front. It's been 5 days and I have not had ANY problems, no throwing up, no problems with swallowing, etc. I am sore where I was punctured. But those punctured areas look fabulous in comparison with other people's incisions/punctures that I've seen. Again, based on all the stories I've read from other people from around the country, it would be worth flying in from anywhere just to have Dr. Duncan performed the procedure.

ABSOLUTELY NO REGRETS !!!:(

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
