Boost Your Protein with Unflavored Protein Powder

Recommended Posts

Your surgeon and your dietitian say you need more Protein. With a limited stomach pouch, how is that going to happen? You can add protein by adding unflavored powder to many things you are already eating and drinking. These can be added to a variety of foods and beverages including cooked cereals, flavored water or low-calorie sports drinks, light yogurts, unsweetened fruit purees, sugar-free puddings, protein shakes and smoothies, milk, Decaf coffee or tea, cottage cheese, Soups, broth and hummus or other bean dips.< /span>

Finding unflavored protein in a single serve packet will allow you to sample a brand without having to buy the larger container first. Single serve packets of whey protein isolate are available online with Bariatric Fusion, Jay Robb and Unjury. Whey Protein Powder is also found in the bulk bins at Sprouts Farmers Market. You can buy a small amount to taste test. Our patients have also liked the larger containers of unflavored whey protein by brands like Inspire , Isopure (GNC, online) and online (online). Keep in mind, whey protein must be kept under 140 degrees, otherwise, it will curdle. Soy protein isolate is also available. Brands include GNC and brands like NOW Foods and Genisoy, which are available online and some natural foods stores. These will be in larger containers. Sprouts Farmers Market also has soy protein in their bulk bins, so that you can buy a small amount to taste test. Sometimes you can get a sample taste of unflavored protein in stores that sell natural foods, supplements and sports nutrition products. Ask about the return policy if you don’t like the product. There are many other brands of unflavored protein powders on the market. If you have a group of bariatric buddies, perhaps the buddies can buy different brands to try and share. This cuts the cost of taste testing. May your protein status be awesome!

You might want to mention that unflavored does not mean no flavor. It means that nothing was added to the powder to mask the taste of the whey.

I use it everyday..but be carefull because if mixed with liquid it can clump..blend it and its a great way to get more Protein. Anyone know when I can introduce small amounts of creamy peanutbutter to my diet..im now 6 week out.

The trick to mixing Protein powders that have a tendency to clump is to think of gravy. Add your powder to a small cup and add a little Water and stir. Add a little more water and stir some more. It should be a thick batter. Continue thinning it with water or milk until there are no lumps and then add that to your Soups or whatever.

As for Peanut Butter, as always - refer to your post-op diet papers or call your surgeon. Never trust strangers on the internet with your health.

Arbonne makes a Protein boost that is flavor-less - it is made with pea and cranberry protein - vegan friendly so no whey - very nice and has 10 grams of protein per serving :)

absolutely agree!!! I use unflavored Protein in my drinks to increase my daily protein, but by no means is it unflavored! I can only use 1/2 of a scoop in my drinks otherwise I can taste it and cant stomach it.

It has hit me today, as I sit in my chair at work that I don't have my belly sticking out to where it would hit the desk. Oh and I can cross my legs more comfortably. It amazes me just how much I have loss in inches vs actual pounds, I have lost 24 lbs all together. But I believe in inches all over about 3 inches. I am noticing more energy and have pep to my step. My skin is a lot clearer. My watch band is shorter by 3 notches. the little things are what I am noticing. When I bend over I don't feel out of breath or I am going to fall over ( weeble wobble).
I am having a hard time with my sweet tooth, it is very hard to not want to get some ice cream or chocolate. Candy I can do without. I have no craving really for that, just chocolate and ice cream. I have gone as far as taking Popsicle and putting them in my mixer with almond milk and making like ice cream with that/ sometimes I have added un-flavored protein powder.
I feel better everyday. The energy is great to have with having younger kids and being able to have the energy to keep up. 😃

If anyone has any advice on how to make your stomach feel better after you eat something you shouldn't have or at too fast, I would GREATLY appreciate it!! It's painful on both sides of my abdomen (like to the point I'm doubled over and using a hot water bottle in addition to medicine) and I'm really nauseous (the thought or smell of food is 🤢).
