Looking for starters of the process surgery likely fall 2017

Recommended Posts

Hi all! I'm at the beginning of the process. Got all my appointments scheduled. Saw my nutritionist on 3/20/2017. See my shrink on 3/27/2017. Got an ab ultrasound on 3/30/2017. So far so good with keeping a food journal. Working on my exercise that seems to be the hardest thing. It will take 6 months for me to get thru the pre-op requirements. Chose gastric bypass. Just want want support, encouragement and any helpful info. Thanks!

Also new. I know every place has their own protocol. So far I have done the mandatory informational seminar and had my first doctors appointment with ekg, chest x-ray and labs. I see the nutritionist next month on the 7th, and the enterologist for esophageal and stomach scope in May. I'm pretty set on bypass but all the research about internal hernias and blockages has me a bit scared.

Just started my process in March as well! Did my seminar on 03/09 and my first of 6 Nutritionist visits on 3/28. I won't get to see my surgeon until 5/09. Looking at Sept/Oct for surgery.

I started the process in February too. I have seen the shrink, gotten an ultrasound of my gallbladder, an upper assxcope, and a stress test. I sae my nutritionist last month and see her again this tuesdsy. My insurance requires 6 months with her. That puts me in the September timeframe.

I'm not sure, but I'm hoping for late summer, early fall. I have to start all over again because of an insurance change, which forced me to change providers. So next week I find out what the new surgeons requirements are, and how many of my previous appointments will transfer. Fortunately, the insurance company doesn't have any extra requirements - at least not that they've told me about. (I worry about that. )

jrmoseley that has to be extremely frustrating. I had to postpone my appointment with my nutritionist because we had two feet of snow and because of her schedule and mine I wont be able to see her for the first time until May. I'm hoping it's the only bump I have in the road. I still have to get in my required support group meetings too. My timing was terrible for starting this because we had a vacation planned that will take us out of the country for a few weeks right in the middle of everything.

Be encouraged. As I get closer to the end, I'm excited and a bit scared. I started my process in middle of December 2016 and I have 2 more nutritionist appointments to go, and a visit with the shrink. After speaking with the nutritionist today I'm looking at my surgery being between the middle of July to the middle of August. Weight loss is 80% how you eat and 20% diet. I just only heard this but it has proven to be true. Had my weigh in today, and I lost 10 pounds in 30 days. I only went out and walked one night in 30 days. I get small amounts of exercise walking for short amounts of time during each day, but no regular exercise routine. Eating healthy is what's important to weight loss. I wish you the best in your journey, and keep us posted on the date!

I started the process in March with. I had my1st appointment with my surgeon on 4/26, go for occupational therapy evaluation tomorrow and H Pylori test on Friday along with my 3rd appointment with nutritionist. I have to have EGD which is scheduled towards the end of this month, sleep study scheduled for next month. I still have to schedule the psych evaluation. My insurance requires 6 months supervised diet so I should be done by Sept and hoping to have approval and surgery by late Oct/Nov time frame. I am so nervous because my nutritionist is afraid if I lose to much my insurance will not approve my surgery since I have no comorbidity. I'm healthy fat. No HP, diabetes, good cholesterol, unless the sleep study determines I have sleep apnea, I have to maintain a 40 BMI.

I had my NUT and a general appointment with the surgeon's assistant yesterday. Apparently my insurance will only allow 3 NUT appointments, but really--I'm okay with that. :) The SA tells me it's important not to rush the process, and I tried hard to just smile and agree, because he didn't seem to hear the part where I told him I've been working toward this for 2 years. I have to wait for my old clinic to get around to sharing my records with my new clinic, anyway and hard telling how long that will take. I also don't want to have surgery until after I've done another set of injections in my SI joints. Otherwise, going without NSAIDS won't be an option.

So I'm trying to just take one step at a time. The SA said something that lit a spark with me--it was along the lines that I must learn how to do things that will take care of me. So on the way home, I bought some small mailing labels, and I'm going to print up some that say "What are you going to do today to take care of you?" and each day, when I start my journal entry for the day, I'm going to paste that at the top of the page and write down one thing to do that day. It might be a nutritional goal or exercise or making appointments or even taking a nap!

Flutterfly, your vacation trip will help you get through the tough days after surgery. Take loads of pics and video so that you can play them back on a loop when you're feeling sore or tired!

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
