Sometimes I feel like my gastric sleeve isn't working. Why am I able to take in large amounts of Water or other fluids like Diet juice/Broth with no issues ?? Did I stretch out my sleeve already ? Did the surgeon do It correctly ? Why haven't I experienced have things most sleevers experience like nausea or vomiting

I feel the same way. I feel like I can drink all I want and no problem getting full liquids down. I cant take more in than 2 to 3 oz at a time of food though. I am 12 days out, I added cottage cheese avocado and plain baked potato in (follow your own doctors recommendations) I can not take in Protein Shakes any more the smell of them repulse me. I haven't and don't ever feel like throwing up. All is good. Sometimes I get scared that I am going to mess up my sleeve. I think we all do. I just hope all goes okay.

I can drink almost normally but I don't push it. I am nearly a month out and have lost 23 lbs. And no my sleeve isn't stretched out.

If you ever have a live swallow test you can see that liquids move through your sleeve instantly. You can't stretch your sleeve or push the limits of it with liquids.

The fact you can drink more just means you have less swelling than others and are healing better.

If you are really concerned ask your Doctor. No one here including myself is really qualified to answer you.

Before I was discharged, I did a barium swallow test and was able to watch the barium move down my esophagus, into my stomach, and almost immediately out into my small intestine. The radiologist commented on the quick emptying time. Maybe I (and you) have less swelling/inflammation than others? Who knows?

I am able to get in lots of fluids without trouble (day 7 and reached 70 oz) too. I take small, frequent sips not big gulps. But the Water definitely doesn't stay in my stomach long.

I had the same thing. They didn't say it was fast or slow. The said it was normal and since they were testing for leaks that is all they commented on, that there was no leak present.

I was able to get all my fluids in, all my Protein and I'm almost to goal without looking like skeletor and my face still looks great.

There are a lot of perks to healing well. People that heal well don't complain as much as the people that are not healing well. Being able to just get a few bites in and barely drink is not supposed to be the intended outcome.

My hospital won't even release you if you cannot eat and drink. I had to be able to drink several ounces of Water and finish a Protein Shake (it was only 4 ounces) before I could be discharged.

They don't release you so you can go home and starve. You are supposed to be able to eat and my practice wants you up to 1200 calories a day as soon as you can get there.

People need to realize that being on low calories for an extended period of time means you will be stuck on them forever. Try maintaining for life on 800 calories a day. It is pure hell. There is a thead here am old and long one about regaining and a lady is stuck doing just that. Eating 800 calories a day forever or gaining. If you ruin your metabolism you will be worse off than when you started.

I wasn't eating nor drinking when I was discharged. Now I'm 3 days post op and having such a hard time.

What are you struggling with? I'm 9 days post op and I will tell you the first four were hell for me. I was depressed, regretful, and just miserable. I couldn't get the Protein down because no it made me gag, I just wanted a cheeseburger and to cry! I started using GENEPRO and by day 6 I felt human again. At one week I got on the scale and had lost 20 lbs! It does get better, let me know if you need someone to talk to. 😊

It's important to remember everyone heals differently and at a different pace. I never had any issues with nausea (other than due to the anesthesia) and no vomiting at all. I was able to get my fluids in very quicky after surgery and am able to drink normal amounts and pace now at 3 months out. I also have no issues with being only able to eat bites. I can eat 3-4 ounces comfortably.

When I had my Leak test done the day after surgery, the nurse said "watch the screen as you drink" so you drink the chalky drink,& you can see your tiny skinny little stomach take the Fluid, mine emptied really fast and the intestines went to work super fast he said, so that was good news! So emptying fast from fluids is good news, I'm 6days post op, no nausea , nothing negative (so far) & and I have no issues getting my Protein Shakes in or my Water. When I eat Greek yogurt watered down, things slow down and I get full, usually I can eat it all, but I stirred in 1 tablespoon of Peanut Butter (NUT recommended)& i got full before being able to finish it. So everyone's a little different , just don't test it like someone else said, you don't need the tempatations.

Have a great day!

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
